It seems the program that drives the bulletin is broken and the focus for the BeachNet kids right now is on getting a new server up. I'm sure it will be back in business soon, but until then, since the school usually forwards me the bulletin, I will try to post it on my website http://geocities.com/ruhs_email/ each evening. Click on the "RUHS Daily Bulletin" link. o Don't Park in Vincent Street Area Unless You Want a Ticket The Redondo Beach Police Parking Enforcement has been at full strength giving tickets before and after school in front of the Admin Building. Parking is NOT permitted in Vincent Park or anywhere in the Vincent Street area. Use the parking lots off Diamond or near the Auditorium. o Grad Night 2006 Meeting Monday The Grad Night 2006 Committee is meeting this Monday, Sept. 12, at 7pm in Room 203. Anyone interested in joining the committee is encouraged to attend. They will be having monthly meetings. If you can not attend this month, watch for the next meeting. If you have resources you can contribute or questions about the committee, contact Jane Diehl at 379-4628. Grad Night is an all night, alcohol free extravaganza for the Seniors after graduation and takes a lot of planning and fundraising to make it happen. o ASB Applications Due this Week - 4 Frosh, 2 All Grade Positions Applications for 6 open ASB (Associated Student Body) positions are due this week. Four Freshmen officer positions are available as well as two all grade appointed positions. Pick up applications in Room 219 and get them turned back in by Friday, Sept. 16. (For those new to the acronym, ASB is the equivalent of what most of us parents called Student Council back in "the old days.") o Miss Getting Your Photo Taken? Make-up Days Oct 3 & 7. If you didn't get your photo taken for your ID and the yearbook at registration, there are two upcoming make-up days: Monday, Oct. 3 and Friday, Oct. 7. Students need to make an appointment prior to these dates with Ms. Stern in Room 202 or Ms. Hogan, the receptionist. If you miss these dates too, your photo won't be in the yearbook and you'll have to pay $10 for an ID. o PTSA Earns $102 this Quarter from Albertsons The PTSA earned $102 this quarter from the Albertsons Community Partners program. That's about twice what we got last quarter, so the program is starting to build. However, we should be making a LOT more (Adams made about $400 this quarter). If you shop at Albertsons and haven't signed up yet, do it now at http://www.albertsons.com/abs_inthecommunity/. Details on the process are at http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/albertsons.txt. It just takes a few minutes and then whenever the cashier swipes your Albertsons Preferred Savings Card, the PTSA gets a little kickback. Get your Mom, brother, and the guy that sits next to you at work to sign up for RUHS too. Some people have reported problems with the Albertsons website, but please keep trying if it is down. Once you've signed up, check the bottom of your receipt to make sure it says "Thank you for supporting youth...". If you signed up awhile ago, please check your account using the instructions above, to make sure credit is still going to RUHS. You can split your credit between multiple schools. You say you shop at Vons, not Albertsons? In that case, register your Vons card with eScrip at http://www.escrip.com/ to give the RUHS PTSA a kickback. o Goodyear Blimp Raffle Extended to Oct. 7 It's not too late to buy a raffle ticket for a chance at a ride on the Goodyear Blimp. The Grad Night 2007 Committee has extended their fundraiser until Oct. 7. The form is available at http://ruhs.bnet.org/registration/Blimp%20Flyer.pdf. You can turn it in to Julie Bassine in the Admin Building with cash or a check made out to "RUHS Grad Night 2007". Everyone is encouraged to participate (not just the 2007 folks) - it's the only way you'll ever get to go up in the blimp as they don't sell rides to the general public. The drawing will be held on Friday, October 7, and the winner will be contacted by phone. If you'd like to make alternate arrangements to buy raffle tickets or you'd like to join the Grad Night 2007 Committee (for the current Juniors), contact Lori Schreier at lschreier@adelphia.net or Laurie Meyer at kurtlaurie@adelphia.net. o Dress Code Reminders Check your kids as they walk out the door to make sure they are dressed appropriately: - Are they clean and neat? - Do their clothes conceal their undergarments? - No inappropriate halter tops, off the shoulder, or low cut tops? - No tube tops? - No bare midriffs? - No extremely short skirts or shorts? - No inappropriate symbols or words on their clothes or accessories? o Other School Tidbits - Room 202 is the ASB Finance Office. Any transactions with money will go through this office. They are open before and after school, at snack, and at lunch. They are NOT open during passing periods or class periods. - Get this year's student parking permit at Room 202. Need valid driver's license, proof of current insurance, and proof of car registration. - Students are requested to NOT put their ID card behind a plastic covering in their wallet as the photo wears off. o Busses: Schedules/Renew Your Bus Card Now The city has the special BCT student bus schedule posted at http://www.redondo.org/civica/filebank/blobdload.asp?BlobID=6446. If you grab up the older complete schedule, it doesn't include the extra bus they've added in the morning and afternoon, but you might want it for some of the other times if your student leaves school earlier or later than the normal 3pm. Get the full schedule at http://www.redondo.org/depts/bdtpm/transit/102Schedule.pdf. For you returning bus riders, don't forget that your BCT card will expire October 31. As it takes the city up to 20 days to process the form, you should start working on it now. Pick up a bus card application form in the Admin Building that has been pre-signed by the school. o Seniors: Good Stuff on the Career Center Website The Career Center has lots of important information for Seniors posted at http://www.bnet.org/ruhs/web3/academics/ccenter/: - Senior Newsletter - Scholarship Folder requirements - College testing information - College application dates (UC and USC application dates coming up soon) - Scholarship opportunities Check this site regularly to make sure you don't miss out on important deadlines. The RUHS Career Center is a wonderful FREE resource for you to use - take advantage of it! The Career Center also hosts weekly meetings for Seniors on Wednesdays at lunch. Make sure your Senior attends these meetings so they stay in the know. o Help Build A Robot Beach Cities Robotics (BCR) is looking for high school students to join the team for a fun year of robot building and competition. Help is needed with computer animation, communications, computer programming, engineering, construction, design, and public relations. All students are welcome to participate.
