Distribution will begin at 7am. There should be a special line for those with a zero period class so that you can get through the line quickly and then report to your class. o School Construction and Road Work Don't forget that the school is still in the throngs of construction work - so be flexible. There IS a new 800 building opening so we can all look forward to checking it out. Last I was over near the school on Thursday, there was still on-going roadwork on Diamond and Del Amo. So, you might want to leave extra time for student drop offs (or consider carpooling or the MTA bus). Remember that there is no student drop off on Vincent. o Bell Schedule - Minor Change This Year The daily bell schedule has been slightly modified this year to add 5 minutes to 1st period and to shorten Silent Reading by 5 minutes. The details for each day are below. I'm assuming that, like last year, the first day of school will follow the A schedule (all periods meet) even though it is a Wednesday. - Monday - A Schedule - Every period meets Warning Bell 7:45 Period 1 7:55 - 8:50 Period 2 9:00 - 9:50 Snack 9:50 - 10:05 Silent Reading 10:15 - 10:30 Period 3 10:30 - 11:20 Period 4 11:30 - 12:20 Lunch 12:20 - 12:55 Period 5 1:05 - 1:55 Period 6 2:05 - 2:55 - Tuesday/Thursday - B Schedule - Periods 2, 4, and 6 meet Warning Bell 7:45 Period 2 7:55 - 9:50 Snack 9:50 - 10:05 Silent Reading 10:15 - 10:30 Period 4 10:30 - 12:20 Lunch 12:20 - 12:55 Period 6 1:05 - 2:55 - Wednesday/Friday - C Schedule - Periods 1, 3, and 5 meet Warning Bell 7:45 Period 1 7:55 - 9:50 Snack 9:50 - 10:05 Silent Reading 10:15 - 10:30 Period 3 10:30 - 12:20 Lunch 12:20 - 12:55 Period 5 1:05 - 2:55 - Zero period classes meet every day from 6:55-7:45. o On-line Calendar There is an on-line calendar of events maintained by our Beachnet students. They've entered dates through April. If you've just discovered that your child has NOT done their summer reading, check out this Zits cartoon for a chuckle in the middle of your frustration: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/zits.asp?date=20040830. o Superintendent Welcomes PTSA Members Below is the text from a letter written by Dr. Carol Leighty, RBUSD Superintendent, to members of the PTA. Remember that it is never too late to join the PTSA. You can download a membership form at http://ruhs.bnet.org/registration/PTSA.pdf. Dear Members of the PTA, Welcome to the 2004-05 school year! Your enrollment as a member of the PTA is very significant. You are declaring an interest and a support for your students in their education. The number one factor of a student's success is the degree of a parent's participation in his/her child's education. While most parents are not PTA officers or sit on the School Site Council, there are many other opportunities for you to support your students and your schools. Joining the PTA is one of them. We welcome your support! As you know, PTA is a Redondo Beach organization and a state and national organization as well. PTA advocates for our children and voices our concerns regarding the continual need of strong educational and health program for our students. The 2004-2005 school year is a very important one for Redondo Beach Unified School District. We have hired nine new site administrators who are the cream of the crop and will lead their schools to even higher levels of achievement and collaboration. I know you join me in welcoming them into the Redondo family. I share with them my enthusiasm for this school district and community and for the fantastic support we receive from our parents and business community. The 2004-2005 school year is also the 100th birthday of Redondo Union High School. Those of you who are Seahawks or whose students are presently attending Redondo Union will receive information about our many plans to celebrate this momentous milestone. All Redondo students, their families and our community will be invited to these Centennial events. So thank you for joining the PTA and being a voice for all students in Redondo Beach. This is going to be a momentous year! Sincerely, Carol A. Leighty, Ed. D.
