Letters were sent to students that the school believes to be in this category. If you received a letter and you think you DID pass both parts of the test already, contact Mrs. Frith or Ms. Wesley. Sophomores will take the CAHSEE for the first time in the Spring. In case you are not aware, California high school students must pass this exam before they are allowed to graduate. The school thanks all those who took the time to vote and Doug Klebe for serving as a member of the SSC for the past few years. o Play Bingo on Nov. 15 to Help School Organizations Regular Tuesday night bingo has been cancelled due to falling participation, but a special bingo night is planned for Tuesday, Nov. 15. This event will feature some MAJOR door prizes (TVs, DVD players, stereos, etc.) in addition to a $250 award for each game. The basic package is $20 which covers about 20 games. There are optional early bird and late games for additional minimal costs. The early games will start about 6pm, but the Bingo Room will open at 4:30pm so you can have dinner at their snack shop (sandwiches, salads, and desserts). Regular play will go until about 10pm with the late games ending by 10:20pm. The Bingo Room is located on Diamond St. near the Science Building. As background, the Redondo Beach Sea Hawk Boosters run the bingo games and ALL the profits are used to help organizations in the school district (e.g., PTSA, Band, Soccer, Career Center). Organizations can earn an easy $400 by providing 10 workers for a bingo night. The boosters are still running a regular Sunday night game, but the demise of the Tuesday games is really hurting some of our groups at the school that were counting on those evenings to raise funds. Please plan to play on Nov. 15 and help spread the word to anyone you know that is a bingo player about this special bingo event as well as the regular Sunday games (11:30am-5pm) We need to get participation up if this fundraising opportunity is to continue! Excellent attendance could help bring back Tuesday bingo after Jan. 1. Send email to swift_k@hotmail.com if you have any questions. o Vex Robotics Training Beach Cities Robotics (BCR) will be conducting Vex Robotics training for all BCR team members starting with the Saturday, Oct. 22, meeting in the Auto Shop. Students will collaborate to design and build a robot to participate in a Dec. 10 Vex Tournament in Southern California. This is excellent training for the big FIRST Robotics Competition that kicks off Jan. 7. Team meetings are held Saturday mornings at 10am. New members are welcome. Contact LeRoy Nelson at LeRoyNelson@earthlink.net for more information. For details on FIRST and the Vex competition, see http://www.usfirst.org/.
