10/05/05 o Vote for Parent Members for School Site Commission by Monday There are two parent positions open on the School Site Commission (SSC). Nominations were called for at Back to School Night and the parents below expressed interest and are running for these 2-year positions. Vote by sending an email to Veronica Cooper at vcooper@bnet.org stating the names of your THREE favorite candidates. The two people that receive the most votes will be the voting members and the person receiving the third most votes will be the alternate. The alternate will attend meetings and share their views, but will only vote in the absence of one of the three voting parent members. (Deni Pulte is the third voting member as she is now in the second year of her two-year term.) As background, from the by-laws, the purpose of the SSC is "to act as an advisory board to the principal(s) on any and all matters concerning the strengthening of the academic, social, safe and athletic environment of the school. Membership includes the Co-Principals, 1 Counselor, 4 classroom teachers, 1 Classified staff member, 3 parents of current students, 3 students, and 1 to 2 community members. BIOGRAPHIES FOR EACH CANDIDATE: + Beth Cross: (Member wishing to return for a second term) Parent of Jillian, a junior, and Michael, eighth grade. Currently serve as co-chairperson for Hermosa Valley's School Site Commission. Other volunteer activities with the schools include assisting teachers in classrooms, Chairperson for Magazine Drive fundraiser, South Bay Adult School Curriculum Committee Member, Ad-Tech Camp Committee Member, Distinguished School Application team member, and RUHS Bingo Night worker! I have a successful Human Resource consulting business where I am often challenged to allocate limited resources and promote collaborative efforts to maximize results. It's been helpful applying these skills as a current School Site Commission member, where the collaboration of administration, teacher, parent and community is essential. Parental involvement makes an enormous difference in the well being of a school, and I would like to bring my experience and dedication to RUHS by serving on this Commission. Thank you for your consideration." + Douglas Klebe: (Member wishing to return for a second term) I am a 19 year resident of Redondo Beach and a 9th grade parent and I want to be sure that he has a wonderful 4 years at RUHS. I have previously been a school board member for Riviera Hall Lutheran School in Redondo Beach for 3 years where I helped to upgrade the school computer facilities and expand the school. I want to be involved in the growth and future campus expansion at RUHS. My background as Program Manager will be beneficial in helping with the school growth. I want to see that the level of education available to the students is the best possible and campus access and security improved. + Nelson Zager I have been heavily involved in our community for the last 14 years. During this time period I have accomplished the following: - Both Cub Scout as well as Boy Scout leader for over 5 years (Eagle Scout) - Coached basketball, soccer for my sons for over 6 years - Board of Trustees for Torrance Memorial Hospital -6 yrs - Chairman, RB Chamber of Commerce (2-Terms) - On RB City Commissions -6 yrs (Budget, Planning) VP of the RB Education Foundation - 3 yrs (Current) - Citizens Corp Council - YMCA Board of Directors - Health & Fitness Academy Board (Since Last yr) - Have worked closely with Mrs. Little and Mr. Casillas on various projects, as well as with Sandy Clifton Bacon on policy issues at the HS. - I have two students at RUHS These are but some of my accomplishments over the last few years. I have two children, one in Redondo Beach Union High School and the other in Tulita Elementary School. As a public employee with twenty-four years of experience devoted to the managing the safe construction of public infrastructure, buildings and other facilities, I am well suited for this position. I have a BS in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Business. I am determined to resolve the current safety violations I observed at back-to-school night as well as other issues within the Commission's jurisdiction. + Carolyn Price My goal is to improve the school to be the best it can be. My daughter is a Sophomore on the Volleyball Team and I have a son soon to enter RUHS. I have been active in the community for 36 years serving on various different volunteer committees such as: RBUSD-CVAC, Jefferson PTA, Hands on Art, Jefferson Talent Show and Carnival, AYSO Board member and Registrar, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts. I would like to work with a committee of dedicated individuals with the desire to improve our High School.
