Grade cards for the 1st quarter were mailed out last week so you should have yours in hand by now. (We got ours on Tuesday.) If your student's grades got "lost in the mail", check with the school. o Bus Changes Start Jan. 1 - Apply for New Card NOW Beach Cities Transit (BCT) will begin running a new bus service starting Jan. 1. This service will essentially replace the MTA 215 route that many North Redondo students use to get back and forth to school. At first glance, it appears the schedule, route, and cost will be similar to MTA. You need to apply for a BCT card NOW in order to receive it before Jan. 1. Applications for the BCT card are available in the Attendance Office. The forms have been pre-signed by a school official. You can also download the application from http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/Student_Application.doc. However, the form does require a school signature, so you will still need to take it to the Attendance Office for a signature before mailing it in. o Seniors: Why Should You Complete a Scholarship Folder? Monday, Dec. 13, is the deadline for Seniors to complete the Information Sheet and essay for Scholarship Folders. Check http://ruhs.bnet.org/web3/academics/ccenter/infosheet.doc for an on-line version of the Info Sheet. The Scholarship Folder is used to apply for community scholarships that become available in the spring. The Career Center has presented details on Scholarship Folders to the Seniors via several different methods, but if it is "news to you", check http://ruhs.bnet.org/web3/academics/ccenter/seniornew2004.doc. The information put together in a Scholarship Folder will also be useful when applying for individual scholarships; a list of current scholarships is posted in the on-line bulletin, http://ruhs.bnet.org/. You might recommend to your Seniors that they attend the weekly information meeting each Wednesday at Lunch in the Career Center to get advice on college related topics. Contact Karen Morris at kmorris@bnet.org or Andrea Wagner at awagner@bnet.org to find out more about Scholarship Folders and the resources available to you at the Career Center. o Band & Dance Guard Holiday Boutique Friday The Band and Dance Guard Holiday Boutique is this Friday, Dec. 3, starting at 6:30pm for viewing, with bidding beginning at 7pm. The auctioneer is great fun and you should be able to pick up some unique holiday gifts. If you or your business would like to donate an item (handmade crafts, gift certificates, etc.), please contact Ms. Riccio at 798-8665, x2042. If you've seen them at any of the half-time shows, you know how hard this group has been working on their 2004 field show, "Fiddler on the Roof." Help them continue to participate in competitions by supporting the Boutique. o Free Math Club Tutoring on Mondays The Math Club offers free tutoring at lunch on Mondays in Room 316. No appointments are necessary and all levels of math are welcome. o Juniors: Apply for Sacramento Safari by Wednesday The PTSA is sponsoring at least 1 Junior to attend Sacramento Safari in Sacramento on March 15-17. Applications are available from your History teacher and must be turned in by this Wednesday, Dec. 1. Sacramento Safari is an informative and educational event where students get to experience the working of the California Legislature. o Parent Nominations for School Site Commission - Deadline Tuesday This Tuesday, Nov. 30, is your last chance to apply for the one open parent position on the School Site Commission (SSC). Send an email to Veronica Cooper at vcooper@bnet.org to apply; include your name, address, phone number, email address, and a mini-bio. The 1st SSC meeting will be Monday, Dec. 13, with subsequent meetings held the 3rd Monday of the month at 3:15pm in Room 203. The election will be held via the "RUHS Email" list. See http://ruhs.bnet.org/web3/life/ssc/SSC_by-laws to view the by-laws of the SSC. CONGRATULATIONS o The boys varsity football team advanced to the quarter finals of the CIF playoffs, losing to St. Francis 17-16 on Nov. 26. o The Dance Guard received the Sweepstakes Award at a recent field tournament in Moorpark. This means that they beat out not only everyone in their own size category, but the groups in the larger categories as well. The Band came in 3rd place at the same competition.
