The event is Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 6:30pm in the Small Gym. The criteria for receiving letters and pins are listed below. If you feel your student qualified and you haven't seen the invitation, have them check their backpack first to make sure it isn't buried in the bottom and then contact Ms. Wesley. - Juniors who have completed at least 120 credits during their Freshman and Sophomore years with an overall weighted GPA of at least 3.3 receive an Academic Letter. - Seniors that have maintained a 3.3 GPA for 6 semesters receive a pin. - Seniors that did not receive a letter their Junior year, can receive one their Senior year if they maintain a 3.3 GPA for 4 semesters. - Students must have attended RUHS for at least a year and, if applicable, been in good standing at their previous school. - Students must have passed the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). The final decision on which city is still up in the air, but it will be either La Paz or Ensenada. Students who would like to participate in the Redondo Beach Sister Cities Youth Exchange Program to one of these cities on Feb. 24-26 should see Ms. Trevino for an application. Ms. Wesley will probably also have applications by Monday. The forms are due on Wednesday, Nov. 30. Students will be responsible for the cost of the airfare if La Paz is the destination; most expenses will be covered if the group goes to Ensenada. The trip is an opportunity to learn more about the Mexican culture and language, and have fun while you're at it. Sister Cities is raising money to pay for 6-8 students. Further details on the exchange program are available at http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/Sister_city_Youth_Applicant.doc. Sister Cities will be presenting their chosen students at a Dec. 4 Holiday Fiesta fundraiser to be held at Delzano's by the Sea. I'm not sure if the problems are with MY provider, Verizon, or with the other systems, but I do also post the email at http://geocities.com/ruhs_email/. So, check there if you haven't seen your copy of the RUHS Email by Sunday night. As more and more people and organizations are trying to avoid spam, I'm also finding my email sometimes gets sent to people's junk mail folder or gets bounced back to me due to content blocking policies. So, if you suddenly stop getting the email, check your junk mail folder and your company email policies. You may be able to "white list" my email address or you might need to receive my e-news at a personal email address instead of at work. As mentioned above, if all else fails, you can check the RUHS Email online. CONGRATULATIONS o Senior Corinna Miller won 1st prize (and $150) in Northrop Grumman's Veterans Day Essay Contest.
