It's this Friday, June 3, on the lawn outside the auditorium at 6:30pm. Bring your blanket or beach chairs and a picnic dinner and sit back and be entertained by the RUHS Jazz Band and Dance Guard. The event is FREE. There will be a taco cart and beverages and baked goods for sale so you don't even have to cook. Encourage your kids to attend - it's a cheap date or a different place to get together with their friends (beats hanging out at the mall or yet another movie). o Did You Register Your Albertsons Card Yet? Only 17 people have registered their Albertsons cards to support the RUHS PTSA. Come on - it only takes a couple of minutes and then the PTSA gets a small kickback each time the cashier swipes your card. This quarter the high school earned $52 from this fundraiser. In the same time frame, Adams Middle School made $465. Do the parents at Adams just eat more than we do? The PTSA turned down support requests from several teachers recently due to lack of funds - they could use the extra money. Just go to http://www.albertsons.com/abs_inthecommunity/ and then click on the Community Partners logo over on the right hand side of the window near the bottom. You can probably figure it out from there, but I have detailed instructions at: http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/albertsons.txt. You can search for the school by name, but if you want to save a couple of steps, you can enter our Partner ID of 49001001722. Please let me know if you have any problems registering. o Academic Awards Night Invitations Went Out Friday Academic Awards Night is coming up on Monday, June 6, at 6:30pm in the Auditorium. This event honors students in grades 9-12. There will be three types of awards given: department awards for the top students in each subject/class; president's excellence awards given to students with a 3.5 GPA and at least an 85% on the California Standards Tests in Math or English; and president's achievement awards for students who have shown growth, committment, and dedication in class. Invitations were distributed in class on Friday to those students being honored so be sure to check with your child if you think they might have qualified. Students absent on Friday should get their invitations on Tuesday. The event is going to have an Academy Awards theme this year. Students are asked to RSVP to Mrs. Frith at 798-8665, x2003 and to dress nicely for the event. If your child has been nominated, please make every effort to attend to applaud their academic efforts. o Buy Your Yearbook Now Before It's Too Late This year's yearbook, which celebrates 100 years of RUHS, is expected to be a sell out. Students need to purchase books immediately in order to guarentee a copy. Once the books are sold there will be no reprints. The price is $70 with an ASB card (only one book can be purchased per card) and $80 without. Yearbook distribution starts on Wednesday, June 8, with Seniors getting first crack at the book from 7-7:45am and at Lunch on the Senior Patio. The rest of the grade levels can pick up their book after school at the lunch windows of the Cafeteria. Distribution continues on Thursday, June 9, on the Senior Patio from 7-7:45am and Lunch. After that, books will be available from the ASB finance office (Room 202). Students must have identification, either a school ID or driver's license, to pick up their yearbook. Students may not pick up a book for another student. o Seniors: El Camino Counseling Sessions Added El Camino College (ECC) added 3 more counseling sessions at RUHS for Seniors attending ECC in the fall. The new dates are Tuesday, June 7; Friday, June 10; and Tuesday, June 14. Appointments are available from 9:30am to 2pm. Sign up in the Career Center. Remember that ECC enrollees MUST participate in a counseling session as well as an orientation session. If you don't do it at RUHS, you need to go to Student Services at ECC. Two orientation sessions are available in the Career Center this Friday, June 3; one at 8:45am and one at 11am. o Cruising Into Summer Gala Saturday Did you make reservations yet for the RB Ed Foundation's (RBEF) gala this coming Saturday, June 4? It's not too late - you can do it on-line at http://www.rbef.org ($65) or just pay at the door ($75). The event is from 6:30-10:30pm at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. Trust me - this is a FUN mingling event where you'll get to chat with lots of old friends. AND, it helps our kids AND it's tax-deductible. Significant other not available? Come by yourself or talk a friend into coming with you. o Student Volunteers for RBEF Gala Requested Volunteers are needed to assist with setup for the RBEF gala on Saturday, June 4. Setup will take place from 9am to 4pm at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. To volunteer, please call Arlene Staich at 316-2252. Those community service hours look good on college applications. CONGRATULATIONS o The Dance Guard excelled in their final competition of the season last weekend in Diamond Bar.
