They'll be facing Los Alamitos on Monday, May 23, at 7pm at Redondo for the quarter finals. The team finished second in the Bay League behind Mira Costa. Be sure to read articles such as "Almost 500 students on no-go list", "Students can explore future careers at expo", and "Band receives excellent rating at competition". Ask your student to see their copy of the paper. o Summer Sports Signups this Week Registration for the summer sports program is after school this Wednesday through Friday (May 25-27) in the big gym. The fee is $120. The orientation program for the incoming 9th graders was held on May 4. For answers to questions from that meeting, check http://ruhs.bnet.org/athletics/answers.html. This link includes information on where you can drop off your fee and clearance packet at the middle schools. The summer sports program will run for 5 weeks beginning June 27. The school is running the camp this year, NOT SportsWorld, and the classes will NOT be for high school credit. If you have any questions, contact Ben Dale at bdale@bnet.org. Mr. Dale is the principal for the summer school session. Anyone (new or returning athlete) signing up for the summer program also needs to complete an athletic health clearance packet. Packets need to be returned to Kathy Burling in the Athletic Office; Ms. Burling can also provide doctor recommendations if desired. o One More Chance to Join Next Year's Dance Guard Ms. Riccio is looking for 2-4 dancers to complete the 2005-2006 Dance Guard Competition Team. Go to Room 3 ASAP for more details. o Seniors: Get in Your Transcript Request Forms Seniors, if you need your final transcript forwarded to a college, you MUST fill out a request form. Forms are available in the Registrar's Office. Be prepared to provide the complete mailing address for the college. o Make Reservations Now for Cruising Into Summer Gala Make your reservations now for the Ed Foundation's gala on Saturday, June 4, from 6:30-10:30pm at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. Take a night away from the kids to enjoy samplings from restaurants, wine tastings, music (it mentions surf music this year!), casino tables, silent and live auctions, and a raffle for a cruise. This is a mingling kind of affair (not a sit down dinner) where you'll run into lots of old friends from throughout the RB community. Advance reservations are $65 per person; $75 at the door. The Redondo Beach Education Foundation supports technology at the high school. vocal music at the elementary schools, and intermural sports at the middle schools. It is helping preserve some of the programs that are threatened by the state's education budget woes. o Rally in Pershing Square to Protest State Education Funding Speaking of the state's education budget woes, if this is a concern to you, you might want to attend the rally on Wednesday, May 25, from 4:30-6:30pm in downtown Los Angeles' Pershing Square to protest the way the state is handling the education budget. Many folks from Redondo plan to take the metro down to the rally; there is a stop within one block of Pershing Square. This rally is being held in conjunction with a similar rally in Sacramento. o Seniors: El Camino Counseling & Orientation Sessions Seniors planning to enroll at El Camino College must participate in an orientation session and meet with an El Camino College counselor. Counseling appointments are still available in the Career Center on Tuesday, June 14, from 9:30am to 2pm. Orientation sessions will be held on Friday, June 3, at 8:45am and 11:00am. Sign up in the Career Center for counseling and orientation sessions. Space is limited. If you do not complete these sessions at the high school, you will need to go to Student Services at El Camino.
