The award is based on enthusiastic, courteous conduct not only by the sports teams, but for the band, dance guard, cheerleaders, and student audience. So, if you are planning to get a prom ticket, buy a yearbook, pay off outstanding charges, etc., do it this week if you want to pay by check. o June 6 Late Start Day Cancelled The Late Start Day originally scheduled for June 6 has been cancelled, so be sure to mark your calendars. The minimum day on May 20 was substituted for the June late start day. o Food Contributions Needed for Friday's Teacher Lunch The PTSA is sponsoring a lunch on Friday, May 13, for the teachers and staff at RUHS in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. Donation pick ups are available. o Volunteers Sought for RUHS Career Expo The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to represent different careers/employment fields for the Career Expo they are sponsoring at RUHS on Tuesday, June 7, from 11am-1pm. The event will be set up similarly to a college fair with volunteers at tables representing various careers. Students will have the opportunity to talk to volunteers one on one. There will also be a few breakout sessions with speakers talking on topics such as starting a business and buying a house. This is the first year the chamber is running the event in this format. Help them make it a success by contacting Marna Smeltzer at marna@redondochamber.com if you can help. o 05-06 Course News - Students interested in joining the Academic Decathlon class must register for an interview in Room 310 before May 20. - The UC approved elective, Women, Men & Society, is seeking next year's Juniors and Seniors. The class discusses myths, fairy tales, and cultures from around the world to answer questions about society's assumptions. Sign up in Room 805 or send email to Ms. Sarachild at lsarachild@bnet.org. - Student filmmakers can sign up for Media Arts 3-4 without taking Media Arts 1-2 if they bring a portfolio, on VHS or DVD, to Room 61 for a teacher evaluation. The class uses the latest in video production and editing equipment to create movies. - There are no pre-requisites required to enroll in AP Art History.
