The front page includes stories "Credit given to middle school classes" and "ASB find success in new online voting system" as well as a photo captioned "Boys' volleyball continues win streak." There's an update on the high school construction project, a feature on student use of prescription drugs, lots of sports news, a back page spread with photos from the Spring musical, and much more. As always, be sure to ask your student to see their copy of the paper. o HS Credits WILL be given for MS Courses The school board, at their meeting on Apr. 26, rescinded the policy to not give high school credit for certain middle school classes beginning with the current Freshmen. Thus, at this time, algebra, geometry, and Spanish classes taken in middle school will appear on the transcript of all student. o ASB Election Results The results from the ASB election held on Apr. 27 are listed below. The election was held completely on-line, with students allowed to vote on computers at school or at home until 9pm. Students used their name as a login name and their student ID number for a password. Check http://eduballot.com for more information on this voting process. Per the "High Tide" article, 996 students voted out of 1713 eligible students. Elections for the Class of the 2009 will be held in the Fall. Please contact Marna Smeltzer from the RB Chamber of Commerce at marna@redondochamber.com if you can help. o CAHSEE Make Up for Sophomores and Juniors The CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) will be given on May 10-11 for Sophomores that were absent during the normal testing in March and for Juniors that did not pass the test in February. If your student is in either of these categories, you should have received a letter in the mail with the details. The test will start at 8am in the Bingo Room. o No PE Credit for Summer Sports Program The Summer Sports Program will not earn PE credit this year. The primary focus is to introduce students to various athletics and give those already in sports an opportunity to train during the summer. If you have any questions, contact Ben Dale at bdale@bnet.org. o El Camino Revising Enrollment Policy for High School Students El Camino College (ECC) is revising their policy regarding enrollment for high school students. Effective Fall 2005, only students who have completed the 10th grade will be allowed to enroll; current policy allows younger students to enroll with the permission of an ECC dean. In addition, high school students will be charged the regular enrollment fee ($26 per unit for CA residents); currently high school students pay no fee. These changes do not apply to LA Harbor or Santa Monica City Colleges. o Ed Foundation Volunteer Meeting Monday The kick-off volunteer meeting for the Redondo Beach Education Foundation's (RBEF) Cruising into Summer 2005 fundraiser is Monday, May 2, at 9am at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. There will be a walk through of the venue, information about the event, committee sign-ups, and distribution of event registration forms.
