Basically, students need to read two books and fill out forms on each book. One book must be from an approved list on the website. The other book can be chosen freely by the student except that they need to avoid books used in the normal curriculum; the books to avoid are also listed on the website. Your student should also be getting information in their English class about the summer reading assignment. o Other Summer Assignments Some classes (e.g., honors and AP) may distribute other assignments that are to be done over the summer. You might want to check with your student to see if they've received any such assignments. o Check Out Senior Edition of the High Tide The June 11 issue of the student newspaper, "High Tide", features highlights on many of our RUHS Seniors. Other articles include: "Tennis takes CIF championship", "Tanny says goodbye", and "Limits might be set on volunteering". As always, there is a lot of good stuff in here; be sure to pick one up. o Next Year's Schedule The School Board approved the following schedule for the 2004-2005 school year at the June 8 board meeting: - Sept. 8 - First day of school - Nov. 11-12 - No school - Nov. 24-26 - Thanksgiving break, no school - Dec. 20-31 - Winter break, no school - Jan. 17 - No school - Feb. 4 - No school - Feb. 14 - No school - Feb. 21 - No school - Mar. 25 - No school - Apr. 11-15 - Spring break, no school - May 30 - No school - June 22 - Last day of school o Students in AP US History Next Year - Reserve Book Now Students enrolled in AP US History next year can purchase the textbook from the school. There is more information/samples available in the Career Center. Also see http://bnet.org/ruhs/web3/academics/ccenter/scholarship-info-sheet.htm. o See You at the Gala Next Saturday? Please support the RB Education Foundation's big fundraiser on Saturday, June 19, at the RB Performing Arts Center from 6-10pm. Check out their website at http://www.rbef.org for all the details and make your $65 reservations. It really sounds like a fun way to help out our schools. I'll be there - hope you are too! o PTSA Board Changes; Positions Still Open Monica Perez, for personal reasons, resigned as the 2004-2005 PTSA President at the PTSA board meeting last Thursday. Anita Avrick agreed to pick up that role with Perez remaining as a member of the PTSA board. There are still openings for a VP of Fundraising, VP of Programs, and a Parliamentarian. Please contact Anita Avrick at anitapta@adelphia.net or 376-5719 if you can fill one of these positions. If you don't have time to sit on the board, but would be willing to organize the fundraising (this is largely selling sweatshirts, book covers, etc.) or to run the SAT and Study Skills Workshops, this could also be arranged. If someone doesn't step forward soon, the workshops will not be held next year. o Help Me Advertise the RUHS Email Please let other people know about the RUHS Email and encourage them to sign up. All they need to do is send me an email at: leewagner.family@verizon.net to get on the list. If you have a graduating Senior and are ready to get off the list, just send me an email to that effect. o Thanks for All the Help Thanks to everybody that has provided information, editing, and general encouragement throughout the year for the RUHS Email.
