If your child got an invitation, please be sure to attend to applaud their academic excellence. Students are asked to RSVP to Mrs. Frith at 798-8665, x2003 and to check in at the Auditorium lobby by 6:15pm to receive their seat assignment. Be sure to dress nicely for the event, as it has an Oscar theme and you don't want your attire dissed by the critics. o Career Expo Tuesday The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Career Expo at the high school this Tuesday from 11:15am-1pm on the Alumni Walkway. The setup will be similar to a college fair in that there will be tables for different types of careers and students will approach the tables of interest to ask questions and pick up literature. There might be opportunities to sign up for summer internships and jobs. o Still Time to Buy a Duck to Support RUHS PTSA Scholarships Did you know that the RUHS PTSA gives out $500 scholarships? This year they are awarding 4 of these scholarships based on applications that were due in April. One PTSA fundraiser that is dedicated just to the Scholarship Fund is the annual "Duck Race". In recent years, this "race" is really just a raffle, although in past years they actually raced yellow ducks in the swimming pool. You might have bought a duck at the time you joined the PTSA back in September in which case you are already entered in the raffle. But, if not, it's not too late to buy a ticket. The form is available at http://ruhs.bnet.org/registration/DuckRace.pdf. The raffle will be held at the PTSA's general membership meeting on Monday, June 13. If you have any questions on the raffle or would like to donate a prize (gift certificate, student artwork, etc.), contact Patty Wacks at wacksfamwest@adelphia.net. o Seniors, Did You Get Your Grad Night Ticket Yet? Grad Night will take place after graduation on Thursday, June 23, starting at 10pm and going through until Friday at 6am. Tickets are still on sale for only $40. (If you are a procrastinator, you are lucky - in past years, the tickets have gone up dramatically at the end, but this year's committee chose to hold the price steady.) There are LOTS of activities at this alcohol and drug free event: dancing, karaoke, casino games, bungee jump, rock wall, pinball games, hypnotist, pool tables, funky hair, plus food and soft drinks all night. See Mrs. Bassine ASAP in the Admin Building to purchase your ticket and get a student/parent waiver form. o More Senior Reminders - There is a Senior meeting in the Auditorium on Monday at 11:45am. It will be followed by a BBQ lunch. - Students will tape their Senior farewell messages on Monday, June 13, from 7:30am-3pm in the Auditorium. Messages must be pre-approved by Ms. Trevino, Ms. Simun, or Mr. Fucci by this Wednesday. You can pick up a form in Room 219. Students are required to read their pre-approved message verbatim. The taped messages are played while people are being seated at the graduation ceremony. - Checks from Seniors are no longer being accepted so you must make any payments in cash or money order. - June 14 is your last chance to buy a cap and gown for $55. - Seniors will receive a contract stating the graduation policies, rules, and dress code. The contract must be signed by both the student and a parent/guardian. Students must return contract in order to receive their cap and gown. - On June 17, Seniors will meet on the Auditorium lawn to take a cap & gown photo at 10am and then proceed to the small gym for the Senior Breakfast at approximately 10:30am. Don't forget to bring your cap and gown to school that day for the photo! - All book fines must be cleared before June 16 or you won't be able to get your cap and gown or receive a diploma. - Pick up pictures from yearbook ads in Room 209 ASAP. - Pick up scholarship folders from the Career Center. o One More Day Off Next January I discovered a discrepancy between two 2005-2006 calendars on the district web page. The calendar I used a few weeks ago to list the days off next year did not include Monday, Jan. 2, as part of the Winter Break, but it appears the kids do get that one extra day. It was recommended that this calendar be used for reference: http://www.rbusd.org/2005%202006%20calendar.pdf.
