ONGOING FUNDRAISERS ABOUT THIS EMAIL QUICK REFERENCES ITEMS OF INTEREST: o Sports - General sports schedules Looks like all the Fall sports schedules are posted already on HighSchoolSports.Net. I hadn't been to the site in awhile - it doesn't seem like it works any more if I try to jump you right to the RUHS selection. You'll need to pick the state and then the school yourself. http://www.highschoolsports.net The first home football game will be Friday, Sept. 16 against St. Paul. o Grade Cards Out Grade cards were mailed home soon after school was out. If you haven't seen yours, be sure to contact the school. o Save August 22-26 for Registration Registration dates are August 22-26 this year with the following break down by grade level: - Seniors: Monday, Aug. 22 - Juniors: Tuesday, Aug. 23 - Sophomores (A-O): Wednesday, Aug. 24 (P-Z): Thursday, Aug. 25 - Freshmen (A-F): Thursday, Aug. 25 (G-Z): Friday, Aug. 26 - Make Up Day: Tuesday, Aug. 30 It makes life easier for everyone if you get registered during your allotted time, so try to save the appropriate dates. The school will be sending out a postcard once the registration website is finalized, but keep in mind that you'll need to download forms, fill them out, and attach some checks before coming to registration. Remember that school photos for both the yearbook and the school ID are taken at registration. Also, text books are handed out at registration, so students will have a heavy load on their way home. My recommendation to Freshmen parents is that you come with your student to registration if at all possible. It is kind of overwhelming the first time. Kids should get a preliminary schedule, so it is a good time to walk around to all their class rooms and find their locker and make sure they can open it. It is a big campus and easy to get lost the first day of school if you don't scope it out ahead of time. o Mandatory Summer Reading Program and AP Summer Projects Keep encouraging your students to get going on the MANDATORY summer reading program. Most kids will need to read 2 books and complete 2 activities. If the work is turned in by Sept. 9, double credit will be given for each assignment. The deadline to complete the assignments is Oct. 10. Sophomore Honors English and the AP English classes for Juniors and Seniors have different instructions. See http://www.rbusd.org/SUMMERREADING.html for all the details. Some of the AP classes have their own summer assignments. At least some of them require buying books so encourage your kids not to wait until the last minute. o Win a Ride on the Goodyear Blimp The Grad Night 2007 Committee is raffling off 2 seats on the Goodyear Blimp. Tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20. All proceeds go towards a drug and alcohol free Grad Night 2007. Tickets are available now through the first day of school, Sept. 7. The winning ride certificate is good until May 2006. Please contact Lori Schreier at lschreier@adelphia.net or Laurie Meyer at kurtlaurie@adelphia.net if you would like to purchase tickets or are interested in joining the committee. The form to order tickets will be available as part of the registration process, so that might be the easiest way to buy your tickets. o Lost & Found has LOTS of Loot I got a tip from a parent that was checking the Lost & Found recently that there is a LOT of good stuff there: keys, glasses, calculators, cell phones, jewelry, and much more. If you are frustrated with the loss of personal items, you should check it out. No guarantees that it hasn't been cleared out by now, but call the school at 798-8665 to check. Also, this particular parent is still on the look out for a medium brown leather wallet that was left on the tennis courts. It had a key attached and a student ID inside. Drop me an email if you have any info. o 2005 Graduates - Did you Request Your Official Transcript? Recent graduates, in the excitement of all the graduation hoopla did you forget to request an official transcript be sent to your college? It won't happen unless you make a request at the Registrar's Office. A parent mentioned that her daughter needed an official transcript for the NCAA clearing house also. I'm not sure if the Registrar's Office is open during the summer, but call the school at 798-8665 to check. o Ready to Get Off the Email List? I'm cleaning up my list, so please drop me an email if you no longer need to get the RUHS Email.
