There is a special line for those with a 0 period class so that they can get through quickly and get to their class. Note that the Late Start Day, originally scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, has been canceled. School will start at the regular time of 7:55am. o El Camino Offering Intro to Justice Class on RUHS Campus Juniors and Seniors, El Camino College is offering a 10-credit class, Intro to Justice, on the RUHS campus. It meets from 3-4:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is for SERIOUS students only. Please make an appointment ASAP to see Ms. Turner or Mrs. Ammentorp if you are interested. o Sailing Team Looking for Members The RUHS Sailing team is looking for new members. No experience required. Meet in Room 310 on Monday at lunch if you are interested. o Track Tryouts, Feb. 2-6 Track tryouts will be held Monday-Friday, Feb. 2-6. See Coach Welch in Room 406 if you have any questions. Pick one up in Room 202 before they sell out. o Career Center Needs Volunteers to Work Bingo Next Sunday The Career Center needs volunteers to work bingo on Sunday, Feb. 1, to help raise money for scholarships. Shifts are from noon-3pm and 3-6:15pm. (Note you can get home for the Superbowl kickoff if you work the first shift.) If you can help, please contact Karen Morris at 798-8665, x2200. o Grad Night Looking for Chaperones Find out what all the Grad Night hoopla is about! The committee is in need of Junior, Sophomore and Freshman parents to serve as chaperones for this year's Class of 2004 Grad Night, to be held on Thursday, June 17. This is an all-night event with a time commitment of 10:30pm through 6:30am. It is a lot of fun and a great way to know what to expect for YOUR future graduating senior! Have fun while helping your high school. There are 2 Bingo Nights each week; one on Sundays from noon-6pm and one on Tuesdays from 4:30-10pm. The Bingo Hall is located on Diamond Street. Boosters is the #1 means of support for Grad Night and other organizations throughout the high school and the community. o Drop off Memorabilia for Senior Time Capsule Students, teachers, coaches, staff, and parents - please drop off memorabilia for the Senior class time capsule to Mrs. Bassine in the Administration Building. The capsule (footlocker) will accommodate large items and will be opened at the 10-year reunion in 2014. Examples of appropriate items are souvenirs, programs, tickets from sporting events, plays, clubs, dances, school publications, etc. o Leader for a Day Rescheduled to March 11 The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce has rescheduled the Leader for a Day event to Thursday, Mar. 11. It was originally planned for February 26. This event is a mock city council meeting; several RUHS students were selected to represent the positions of the city's elected officials and department heads. The meeting will open to the public at 2:30pm. o PTSA Prez Passes on Words of Wisdom from PTA Conference Monica Perez, RUHS PTSA President, recently attended the 33rd District PTA Mid-Winter Conference. At a lecture, "Mind if I Understand Your Learning", Dr. Pamela Nevills said that parents can help students better retain school information by asking and commenting about their daily homework as it will help confirm what they are learning.
