This is true even if you played a sport earlier in the year. o Golf for Grad Night - Feb. 15 Grad Night 2004 is hosting a Golf Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 15, at Los Verde's Country Club starting at 10am. Anyone can participate. The cost is $125 w/lunch. If you get a hole in one, you can win a new Toyota. Call Tara at 316-4864 for info by Sunday, Jan. 25. o Seniors: Send Thank Yous for Recommendation Letters Congratulations to all the seniors that completed their scholarship folders last week! The Career Center reminds Seniors that it is a professional gesture to send thank you notes to everyone that wrote a recommendation letter for you. o Didn't Complete Scholarship Folder, but Need College Money? Seniors who did not complete a scholarship folder are reminded that there are many scholarships available that do not require a scholarship folder. You can apply for these individually. Some are even open to underclassmen. A list of current scholarships is posted in the Career Center and updated weekly. Come to the Senior Meetings in the Career Center every Wednesday at lunch to find out more. o RB Ed Foundation Forming Gala Committees Wednesday The Redondo Beach Education Foundation (RBEF) is forming committees to take on tasks specific to the gala fundraising event planned for this spring. There is a planning meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 7pm at the Chamber of Commerce offices on 200 North Pacific Coast Highway (this is the building next to the RUHS auditorium). After introductory remarks to describe the gala, the meeting will break into groups to develop action plans for each committee. Anyone interested in helping with RBEF is encouraged to attend. For more information, send an email to rbef@msn.com. Remember that the RBEF has revitalized itself recently to raise funds to help cover some of the school district funding shortfalls. They have already provided funding to bring back the middle school sports programs. o Lemonade Series Writing Scholarship - Grades 10-12 The Lemonade Series Writing Scholarship is available to students in grades 10-12. You must write a story, essay, or personal narrative of 500 words or less, describing how a teacher, coach, counselor or any person in your life has positively inspired you to change your life. The winning story will be published in the upcoming book, "Living With Love, Laughter, & Lemonade" with cover credit to the writer. The deadline for entry is Apr. 1. The winning author will be awarded $500. She placed 4th at the VFW district level and has been designated "An Outstanding Spokesperson for Freedom." o Tyler Tangalin was accepted into the All Southern California Honor Band for the 2nd straight year. He was selected as the principal clarinet, making him one of the top high school clarinetists in Southern California.
