There are a lot of diverse groups on campus so you're bound to find something of interest. To name just a few of the clubs: French, Spanish, Key, AVID, Ecology, Math, and Drama. Most clubs meet at lunch so you can't beat the convenience. Why not get more involved this semester? o Designate RUHS on Target Card - 1% Donated to School Did you know that if you name RUHS as your "designated school" on your Target Card or Target Visa Card, the school gets 1% of your purchases? It adds up - Target pays out twice a year and their donation to RUHS in September was $762. So far, there is almost $700 accumulated toward the next check. If you already have a Target card, to designate RUHS, go to http://target.com/target_group/schools/search_school.jhtml. You can enter the school ID of 29328 or search by school name. Once it gives you the RUHS info, hit the "Designate" button. You can also call 1-800-316-6142. Grandma, Uncle Bob, and Cousin Susie from anywhere in the country can designate RUHS too! So get them ALL to help our school. There is also a button on the website to sign up for a new Target card, of course. This year's Target donations will be used to help fund the busses for field trips. o BCT Bus Schedule Revised to Better Fit Student Schedules Effective Jan. 31, the schedule for BCT (Beach Cities Transit) Line 102 was modified to try to improve the service. So, if you've been a little disappointed with the new bus line, you might give it another chance. They seem to really be trying to work out the kinks. The new schedule was handed out to students last week at the school bus stop. It is also available on-line at http://www.redondo.org/depts/bdtpm/transit/102Schedule.pdf. + There are 4 busses in the morning that arrive at the school before 7:55am. Schedule estimates for the stop on Vail near the Senior Center. - 6:22am - arrive RUHS 6:49am - 6:43am - arrive RUHS 7:10am - 7:21am - arrive RUHS 7:38am - 7:27am - arrive RUHS 7:44am + Every other bus will go directly down Vail instead of to the Galleria and then down Vail. Schedule estimates for the main school bus stop for the "afternoon rush": - 2:58pm (goes directly down Vail) - 3:00pm (goes to Galleria and then down Vail) - 3:30pm (goes directly down Vail) - 3:58pm (goes to Galleria and then down Vail) The BCT requests that you email them any additional comments and suggestions to bct@redondo.org. The BCT is also concerned about disorderly conduct by some of the students. Transit managers and supervisors are doing ride alongs and might request assistance from the RB police department as well. Please remind your student to act appropriately on the bus or they could lose their privilege to ride. o SAT and ACT Tips The Career Center offers the following testing tips: - Juniors: The SAT or the ACT with Writing is required if you plan to apply to a 4-year college in the fall. - All University of California campuses and some private colleges require two SAT II subject tests of your choice. Take 2 subject tests on the same day: + Literature ( take if you are good in English) + Bio, Chem, Physics (take if you will be a Science major or are in an AP class) + U.S. History or World History + Foreign Language (Language with Listening given in November only) + Math (Level 2 only) - SAT: Apply by Feb. 7 at http://www.collegeboard.com for the March 12 test. - ACT: Apply by Mar. 4 at http://www.student.org for the April 9 test. - Don't delay to register - Test Centers are rapidly becoming full and late fees are as high as $20. - Registration and study booklets are available in the Career Center. o Evening School Board Candidate Forum on Feb. 23 The Redondo Beach PTA Council is hosting a free School Board Candidates Forum on Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 7-9pm in the RUHS Library. Be sure to get this on your calendar. It is important to be informed about the candidates, especially during these lean years for school budgets. o Hosts Needed for Mexico City Student Exchange The student exchange from Mexico City is April 18-May 1 this year and host families are being sought. The students, aged 13 to 15, will visit RUHS with their host students as well as tour Southern California attractions and present folkloric dances. Host families get the opportunity to practice Spanish as well as learn about another culture in a fun and personal way. If your student is taking a foreign language, they should have brought home a form to fill out. Contact Connie Smith at 798-8665 x2404 or csmith@bnet.org for more information. o PTSA Looking for Bingo Volunteers for March 6 The PTSA is looking for bingo volunteers for Sunday, Mar. 6.
