Students who would like to participate in the Redondo Beach Sister Cities Youth Exchange Program to Ensenada on Feb. 4-6, should see Ms. Wesley or Ms. Frith for an application. The forms will be due on Friday, Jan. 7. All expenses will be paid; you only need to bring spending money. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to learn more about the Mexican culture and language, and have fun while you're at it! Sister Cities is raising money to pay for 8 students. o New High Tide Out A new "High Tide", the student newspaper, came out on Friday, Dec. 17. Ask your student to see the copy they should have received in class to read articles such as: "Class ranks change based on weighted GPAs", "Ed Council rethinks who receives cords", and "Future of after game dances undetermined". The on-line version of the newspaper is available at: http://my.highschooljournalism.org/ca/redondobeach/ruhs/. It tends to run a week or so behind the paper copy. o Budget Reduction Meeting on Saturday Jan. 8 The School Board is conducting a Budget Reduction/Revenue Enhancement Community Forum on Saturday, Jan. 8, from 9-11am in the Lincoln School Auditorium. Come out and represent the high school's concerns. The board is being forced to make mid-year cuts because the district fell below the state-mandated 3% reserve. For more information, read the "Easy Reader" article: http://easyreader.hermosawave.net/news2002/storypage.asp?StoryID=20025343&IssuePath=news2004/1216/. o Pick Up Your PSAT Results If you didn't pick up your PSAT results yet, you can get them from Mrs. Barker or Mrs. Hogan in the Administration building after the break. o Route Map and Schedule for New BCT Bus Line Schedules for the new Beach City Transit (BCT) bus line 102 were handed out to students at the school bus stop on Friday by representatives from the Transit Division of the City of Redondo Beach. If you haven't seen it yet, check with your student. The city has also posted general information on the BCT lines at: http://www.redondo.org/depts/bdtpm/transit/beach_cities_transit.asp. Note that there are reductions in the Wave busses that could affect some people. You can access the line 102 route map and schedule at http://www.redondo.org/depts/bdtpm/transit/line_102.asp and http://www.redondo.org/depts/bdtpm/transit/102Schedule.pdf. Remember that the new BCT #102 will be running instead of the MTA 215 when school resumes on Jan. 3. If you haven't gotten a card and pass yet, you will need to pay $1 each way. o RB 2005 Calendar Features RUHS 100th Anniversary The City of Redondo Beach 2005 calendar is titled "Redondo Beach Celebrates 100 Years of Education" and all the photos feature the high school. There are some great photos of how the school used to look, old sports teams (the girls 1927 water polo team is my personal favorite) plus more recent sports shots, a science classroom shot from the 1950s, etc. The calendar ends with a photo of kids from the class of 2005 at the Fall Sports Rally. The calendars only cost $2 and are available at both city libraries. Could be a great last minute gift for someone. o Happy Holidays! Enjoy the break and take the opportunity to spend time with your kids (even if you have to physically drag them out of bed or away from the Xbox). It is a good chance for us all to catch up on our sleep and "recharge our batteries" so we're ready to jump into 2005 with renewed energy.
