Be sure to check out stories such as "Teachers find problems in 800 building", "Academic Decathlon faces budget scare", and "Students attempt to bring AIDS Awareness Week to Redondo." Check the paper on-line at: http://my.highschooljournalism.org/ca/redondobeach/ruhs/. o Election Results for School Site Commission Parent Positions Deni Pulte was elected as the new parent representative on the the School Site Commission. Cindy Merrill, with the 2nd largest number of votes, will hold the alternate parent position. A total of 57 people voted in the election. o Financial Aid Information Night - Jan. 12 The Career Center is hosting a Financial Aid Information Night on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 7pm, in the Cafeteria. Senior parents and students are encouraged to attend. Topics to be presented by a Financial Aid Specialist include: + Overview of Financial Aid + Step-by-step explanation of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form. The FAFSA is filed by Seniors between Jan. 1 and Mar. 2. For more info call the Career Center at 798-8665, x2200 or email Karen Morris at kmorris@bnet.org. o More Info on the New Bus Line Hopefully, you are well aware that MTA line 215 will be replaced by a new bus service, Beach City Transit (BCT), beginning on Jan. 1. This is the line used by many north Redondo students to get back and forth to school. Below are some of the details on the new bus line: - Schedule The schedule for BCT Route #102 will be as follows (this could vary slightly as the schedule is still in final review): + Arrivals at school: 6:56, 7:14, 7:21, 7:43, 8:06 + Departures from school: 2:55, 3:05, 3:25, 3:50, 4:09, 4:30, 4:50, 5:15, 5:40, 6:00, etc. The Redondo Beach Transit Division plans to hand out schedules to students at the school bus stop on Friday afternoon, Dec. 17. - Cost The fare to ride on the new bus line will be $1 each way. - Passes The City of Redondo Beach will offer a $8 monthly pass for students that reside in the city. You can download a form from http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/bct_pass_form.xls and mail it in or go to the Transit Division in person at 415 Diamond St. More details on the requirements for the pass are at http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/bct_pass_letter.doc. The city will also still offer monthly MTA passes. - BCT Card You must have a BCT Card in order to use the monthly pass. If you haven't applied for a card yet, pick up a form in the Attendance Office. If you already ordered your card, it should be mailed out next week. CONGRATULATIONS o The Dance Guard won the Sweepstakes Award at the field competition held Dec. 11 at Santa Barbara High School. The group beat out several schools in larger size categories to earn this honor. The Band took 1st place and Percussion took 3rd place in their size categories at the same competition. o Rebecca Sopp took 5th place at the Footlocker West Regional Cross Country Championships with a time of 20:46.
