You might need to play around with the options a bit. For instance, for Cross Country you need to pick Boys/Girls for the gender. For football, you can pick Varsity, JV, or Frosh/Soph for the level. o Download Your Registration Forms NOW Don't forget that you need to download all your registration forms from the RUHS website. They must be printed and completed before your student comes to registration. For all the details and the forms, go to http://ruhs.bnet.org/registration. Blank forms will be available at registration in case you have difficulty printing the forms. o Volunteers Needed at Registration The PTSA is still looking for adult volunteers to help out at registration (Aug. 23-Aug. 27 and Aug. 31). Please contact Anita Avrick, RUHS PTSA President, at 376-5719 or anitapta@adelphia.net if you can work a shift during any of those days. o Campus Construction The campus is a bit of a mess right now due to construction activities. The administration is working with the construction crews to ensure there is a safe pathway between the Big Gym and the Library by Monday so that students can pick up their textbooks during registration. It is going to be challenging for everyone for awhile as temporary walkways will be installed and moved about as construction necessitates. Remind your older students to be considerate to Freshmen and help them find their way. o Review School Map with New Students New student tours will not be conducted at registration due to the state of the campus. It is doubtful whether the campus will be open at all before school starts so parents should review a school map with their students to help orient them. The map on the registration site, http://ruhs.bnet.org/registration/CampusMap.gif, is a little tough to read, but it includes the entire campus. I like this map, http://www.southbayadult.org/RUHS%20campus.pdf, because it is easier to read, but it does not include everything. o Diamond Street Road Work - Use East Entrance to Parking Lot There is extensive road work being done on Diamond Street. As of Thursday, you could not turn into the parking lot near the Big Gym from Garnsey. There is another entrance at the east end of the parking lot accessible from Del Amo Blvd (see the full campus map mentioned above). o No Agenda Books at Registration This Year The school will not be distributing Agenda Books at registration this year. Instead, a month at a glance type calendar will be distributed a couple weeks after school starts along with a separate listing of school events. Students will be expected to write the events of interest to them into their calendars. My personal opinion is that the monthly calendar may not provide enough room to keep track of daily assignments so you might want to consider buying your student an assignment book while you are out doing your Back to School shopping. My understanding is that the agenda books have always been paid for with corporate donations and that did not occur this year. If you have suggestions for getting them funded in future years, please contact the school. o Freshman Orientation After School Starts Loreen Trevino, Activities Director, and the ASB students are planning to have a Freshman Orientation sometime during the first two weeks of school. o Class Changes at Registration and 2nd Week of School Students will be able to see their EAs (Educational Advisors) for class change requests during registration, up until school begins, and during the 2nd week of school only. EAs will make appointments for after school during the 2nd week. Students are reminded to be patient as there are only 5 EAs and current enrollment is approximately 2300 students. There are also fewer classes available - remember those high school staff cuts that the school board made in the district budget? o Student Registration Times and Location Student registration times posted on the website are listed below. Note that they now have more specific alphabetic time assignments for Sophomores and Freshmen than in the original mailing. Registration will occur this year in the Big Gym (also known as the Sea Hawk Pavilion) located near Diamond and Garnsey. There is a large parking lot located near the gym. See the on-line maps referenced above for details. - Monday, August 23 - Seniors O-Sh 8:00- 8:30am Gb-K 8:30- 9:00am Si-Z 9:00- 9:30am L-N 9:30-10:00am A-Cl 10:00-10:30am Cm-Ga 10:30-11:00am - Tuesday, August 24 - Juniors O-Sh 8:00- 8:30am Gb-K 8:30- 9:00am Si-Z 9:00- 9:30am L-N 9:30-10:00am A-Cl 10:00-10:30am Cm-Ga 10:30-11:00am - Wednesday, August 25 - Sophomores A-B-C 8:00- 9:00am D-E-F 9:00-10:00am G-H-I 10:00-11:00am J-K-L 11:00-noon Lunch noon - 1:00pm M 1:00- 2:00pm N-O 2:00- 3:00pm - Thursday, August 26 - Sophomores P-Q-R 8:00- 9:00am S 9:00-10:00am T-U-V 10:00-11:00am W-X-Y-Z 11:00-noon - Thursday, August 26 - Freshmen A-B 1:00-2:00pm C-D-E 2:00-3:00pm - Friday, August 27 - Freshmen F-G-H 8:00- 9:00am I-J-K-L 9:00-10:00am M-N 10:00-11:00am O-P-Q-R 11:00-noon Lunch noon- 1:00pm S-T-U 1:00- 2:00pm V-W-X 2:00- 3:00pm Y-Z 1:00- 2:00pm - Tuesday, August 31 (Make Up Day) 8am-noon o Seniors - Don't Forget Scholarship Sheet Seniors, don't forget that the 1st draft of your Scholarship Information Sheet should be completed over the summer. You can find a copy of the form on the Career Center's website at http://bnet.org/ruhs/web3/academics/ccenter/. o Don't Forget Your Summer Reading Assignment See http://www.rbusd.org/page97.html for all the details on the Summer Reading Program. o Take the Bus The MTA busses are a good solution for getting kids to and from school. Getting a bus card from the MTA and and the monthly pass from the City of Redondo Beach (only $8) can be a little tricky. I've updated my bus page, http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email, recently to include information on more bus lines. Please let me know about other lines that students use so that I can make the page more inclusive. o RUHS 100th Birthday in 2005 The high school's 100th birthday will be celebrated the week of June 22-26. The 100th Committee is already in high gear making lots of exciting plans. Check out their website at http://www.ruhsalumni.org/load.php?vs=alumEvents&vb=celeb100. If you know RUHS alumni, please make sure they are aware of the website. o Standardized Test Results Mailed to Homes Individual results from last Spring's STAR (Standardized Testing and Reporting) testing were mailed to homes a few weeks ago. If yours got "lost in the mail" somehow, you might want to check with the school. To see statistics for the school, go to: http://star.cde.ca.gov/star2004/viewreport.asp. ABOUT THIS EMAIL: The intent of this email is to communicate information about RUHS on a weekly basis during the school year. Parents, students, and staff are encouraged to join the email list and also to send me items of interest to include in the email. See my archives at: http://geocities.com/ruhs_email.
