TABLE OF CONTENTS: ITEMS OF INTEREST o Sports ONGOING FUNDRAISERS ABOUT THIS EMAIL QUICK REFERENCES ITEMS OF INTEREST: o Sports - General sports schedules http://www.highschoolsports.net o Are All the Summer Projects Done? Yes, your child has Summer Reading projects. If they are taking AP classes, they probably have some addititional work due at the start of school. Check http://www.rbusd.org/SUMMERREADING.html for details. o Registration this Week Registration is this week in the big gym. There are preferred dates and times for students to come in based on their grade level and last name (see calendar section above). It helps spread out the crowds if you come at your suggested time, but if you have a conflict, I believe the school will accomodate you whenever you come in. Registration check list: - Forms printed - Forms filled out and checks attached as needed - Leave at least an hour to register; more for freshmen - Freshmen parents might consider coming to registration - You will get your school photo taken so dress appropriately; This photo will be in the yearbook and on your school ID. Bring the photo order form you should have gotten in the mail if you want to order photos. - You'll end up with a big pile of books, so make sure you have a way to get them home. - Find your classrooms and locker (and make sure you can open it) Have you printed your forms yet? I am still fighting the Health Form myself - it won't print. I also had to update to Adobe 7 before I could even view the Heath Form. So, don't assume it will take just a few minutes to print the forms. Another parent reported he couldn't get the handbook to print. The school posted it in Word for him to see if it would help. If you are having that problem, try: http://ruhs.bnet.org/registration/handbook.doc. The registration website is http://ruhs.bnet.org/registration/. o Bus Info The school should have signed BCT bus card applications available at registration. If you are a Redondo resident, that is your first step in getting the $8 per month bus pass. The application needs to be signed by a school official, so be sure to pick one up if your student will be riding the bus. If your child already has a bus card from last year, it will expire at the end of October. So, pick up a form at registration and mail in the application now. Check my bus webpage http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/bus.html for more tips on the busses. The city's transit site is http://www.redondo.org/depts/bdtpm/transit/default.asp. The schedule and route is available there on-line. The route home is a little tricky as every other bus goes down Artesia to the mall, with the alternating one going down Rindge to the Green Line station. Depending on where you live, that might be important to you. One of the beach papers had an article last week indicating that BCT is adding a bus during the school "rush hours" so the busses should be less crowded than last year. o School Board Meeting Aug. 30 There's been some confusion on the date of the next School Board Meeting as the board's website listed Aug. 23. However, I have been assured by school board member Jane Diehl that the date is actually Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 6:30pm at the district office. o School Pick up and Drop Off Rules The school has asked me to remind parents about student pick up and drop off rules. Remember to be courteous of the high school's neighbors! - Drop off and pick up students on the Diamond Street side of the school ONLY (not on the Vincent side). - Keep horns, car beepers, car alarms, engines, and stereos down out of respect for the community. - Do NOT park in permit parking areas or block driveways. The police DO ticket. - Students should park in the student parking lot off Diamond Street. If full, park on Diamond Street. READ the street cleaning signs to avoid a ticket! o Sign up for SAT Workshop in October The Reading Game in conjunction with the RUHS PTSA is running a workshop in October for the November SAT. Classes will be held on all Saturdays in October from 9am-12:30pm. The cost is $200; limited scholarships might be available. Pick up a signup flyer at registration or download it from: http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/SAT_workshop.doc. The workshop is geared toward Seniors, but Juniors can sign up if there is space. (Juniors are not eligible to take the SAT until the Spring.) For more information, contact Bev Reynolds at bhrey@adelphia.net o Seniors: Review Your Career Center Newsletter The Career Center asked me to remind Seniors and their parents to review the newsletter mailed home in June. You can view the newsletter on-line at the Career Center's website - http://bnet.org/ruhs/web3/academics/ccenter/. o Seniors: College Testing Alert Fall college testing registration is now available.
