The forms and other useful information are at: http://ruhs.bnet.org/registration/. Don't wait until the last minute and find out you have software issues, you're out of ink, or your network connection is down! As of last year, the school no longer provides the forms for pick up or mails them to homes so you have to go on-line. The school suggests those without Internet access use the public library. o Workers Needed for PTSA for Bingo on Aug. 16 The PTSA is working a bingo night on Tuesday, Aug. 16, and needs 10 volunteers. There are 2 shifts: 4:45-7:45pm and 7:30-10:30pm. Bingo provides a way for the PTSA to earn a quick $400 to get the year started. If you can help, contact Kathy Swift at swift_k@hotmail.com and let her know which shift you can work. o Parent Help Needed at Registration The school still needs people to help out at registration with things like handing out schedules, checking out books, assisting with photos/IDs, etc. The following dates/times still have open slots: - Wednesday 8/24: 7:45am-Noon and 12:45-3:15pm - Thursday 8/25: 7:45am-Noon and 12:45-3:15pm - Friday 8/26: 7:45am-Noon and 12:45-3:15pm - Tuesday 8/30: 7:45am-Noon Please contact Anita Avrick at anitapta@adelphia.net or 376-5719 if you are available to help the school. The PTSA is also looking for people to work their table at registration. Contact Kathy Swift at swift_k@hotmail.com or Sara Pritzkat at pritzmom@adelphia.net if you can help the PTSA. o Bus Info I'm still in the process of updating my website with info about busses, but the basics are there at: http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/bus.html. The city's site is http://www.redondo.org/depts/bdtpm/transit/default.asp. Redondo Beach residents can get a monthly bus pass for $8, but you need to apply for a bus card and provide proof of residency. It's a little complicated, but once you get it figured out, it is a good deal. Most of the North RB kids use BCT (Beach City Transit) route 102, but some kids might use the MTA lines. Schedules and route maps are available on-line or at the public library. o School Planners this Year The school is putting together a planner this year with preprinted event dates. It is an 8.5" x 11" format with a monthly calendar on a 2 page spread followed by weekly calendars for that month. There are informative pages at the beginning of the book with the daily bell schedules, contact info, graduation requirements, etc. The planners will sell for $3 if you buy an ASB (Associated Student Body) card and will be $5 without an ASB card - well worth it to have all those dates handy. The planners SHOULD be available by registration. o Don't Forget Your Summer Projects Keep reminding your kids to get their summer projects done. See http://www.rbusd.org/SUMMERREADING.html for more details on the mandatory summer reading program as well as info on some of the AP (Advanced Placement) summer projects. Seniors, you should be working on the information sheet for your Scholarship Folder over the summer. Check the details at http://www.bnet.org/ruhs/web3/academics/ccenter/scholarshipinformation.html. o Register Your Cards for eScrip More details soon, but please register your Vons card and your credit cards with eScrip listing Redondo Union High School as one of the schools you are supporting. The PTSA will be managing the income earned through eScrip this year. The web site to sign up is: http://www.escrip.com/. o Make Sure to Give RUHS Credit for Office Depot Buys If you do your Back to School shopping at Office Depot, don't forget to ask them to give RUHS credit for your purchases. They give a credit to the school for 5% of your bill. The cashier can easily look up the RUHS code, but, for your reference, it is 70012799. o Class for Robotics Students Starts Sept. 3 at El Camino Professor Ed Hofmann of El Camino College is teaching a course designed for robotics students entitled: Basic Machine Tool Operation. It includes both lecture and shop hours. The course should provide a foundation of practical experience for pre-engineering students. The class will be held on Saturdays, starting Sept. 3, from 9am-3:30pm. For more information, contact Professor Hofmann at hhofmann@elcamino.edu or 660-3292. Check the El Camino website at http://www.elcaminocollege.org/why_ecc.htm. Tuition costs should be waived at El Camino for high school students.
