And, remember your student might have additional required work over the summer if they are taking honors and/or AP classes. (The only ones I know about for sure are coordinated assignments for Sophomore Honors English and AP European History.) Check with your student to make sure they aren't procrastinating some summer assignments. o Take the Bus The MTA busses are a good solution for getting kids to and from school. Getting a bus pass (only $8 a month) is a little tricky. I've posted some bus tips at: http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email. o Educational Advisors Revamped As you probably know, the assignment of Educational Advisors (EAs) has been revamped to an alphabetic system. Some EAs have left the district and some new ones have been hired. This is what is currently posted on the RUHS website. A-C Tawni Weidman tweidman@bnet.org D-H Arond Schonberg schonberg@bnet.org I-M Ashley Goodman agoodman@bnet.org N-R Marianne Turner mturner@bnet.org S-Z Keith Fulthorp kfulthorp@bnet.org o Assistant Principal News Two new Assistant Principals (APs) have joined the RUHS staff. Ben Dale is replacing Mr. Agatep / Mr. Bushman. He comes to us from Littlerock High School in the Antelope Valley where he served as an AP. Nicole Wesley is replacing Kay Tanny; Wesley was previously an AP at Gardena High School. Goy Casillas, one of RUHS' co-principals, reports the administration is "very excited about our new additions, they bring youth, energy and enthusiasm as well as a proven record at their former sites." Ben Dale bdale@bnet.org Nicole Wesley nwesley@bnet.org o Download Your Registration Forms You should have gotten a postcard in the mail reminding you that all registration forms need to be downloaded from the RUHS website, printed, and completed before your student comes to registration. This is a new policy; do NOT expect a packet of forms to be mailed to you or to pick up forms at the school. Go to http://ruhs.bnet.org/registration for the forms. o Registration Tips for Freshmen My personal recommendation for Freshmen parents is that you come to registration with your student if at all possible. It is pretty confusing the first year. They need to pick up gym clothes, Spanish workbooks, get their photos taken, get their Student ID, etc. If you are not going to attend, read all the forms VERY carefully and make sure you sign them all and include any required checks. It is a good time to walk around with your student and familiarize them (and you) with the sprawling campus. Find all their classrooms and their locker - and make sure they can open it. Students will pick up their books on registration day so they will end up with a VERY heavy load. You might want to consider leaving the books in the student's locker. o Student Registration Times and Location Student registration times posted on the website are listed below. Note that they now have more specific alphabetic time assignments for Sophomores and Freshmen than in the original mailing. Registration will occur this year in the big gym (also known as the Sea Hawk Pavilion) located near Diamond and Garnsey. There is a large parking lot located near the gym.
