(We received our son's on Wednesday.) If you are concerned that it might have gotten "lost in the mail", be sure to contact the school. o STAR Testing This Week STAR testing is this week for Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors. There are quite a few deviations from the regular schedule as noted in the Calendar Section above. For more on California's STAR (State Testing and Reporting) program see: http://www.cde.ca.gov/statetests/star/index.html. o South Bay High School Art Competition and Battle of the Bands The Redondo Beach Pier Association & Plaza Properties are co-sponsoring the first South Bay High School Student Art Competition & Battle of the Bands at the Redondo Beach Pier (horseshoe area) this weekend. Students from RUHS, Mira Costa, and the four Torrance schools are participating in this free event. The Art Show Exhibit is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25 from noon to 6pm. The bands will compete on Saturday, April 24, from noon to 7pm. o Senior Excursion, June 3. Tickets on Sale Next Monday. Senior Excursion tickets to Disneyland go on sale next Monday, May 3, for $58. Students will depart for Disneyland on Thursday PM, June 3, and return Friday AM, June 4. o Pick up Graduation Cards & Announcements May 7 Seniors should pick up their graduation cards and announcements in room T-9 on Friday, May 7, Snack through Lunch. You need to pay your balance due. Money orders or credit cards are OK, but no checks will be accepted. o Business for a Day Cancelled Business for a Day, scheduled for April 21, was cancelled due to issues with transportation and insurance. Efforts are underway to resolve the difficulties by next year. o Apply for Redondo Beach Youth Commission by May 1 Applications for the Redondo Beach Youth Commission are available in Room 219. Beginning Choir received a third place award and the other groups all received second place awards. o Genevieve Williams won first place from the American Meteorological Society and a $2,000 EarthWatch expedition to do field research this summer in either the Caribbean, Central America or North America at the recent Los Angeles County Science Fair.
