The carnival will be held at Aviation/Manhattan Beach Blvd. from Apr. 21 to 24. The proceeds for the pre-sale tickets not only save you money, but they benefit building the new North branch library. Tickets are on sale at both RB libraries. With these pre-sale tickets, you receive 8 rides for $10 vs. $2 to $3 per ride. o Chalk it Up for Hands on Art May 7 Hands on Art is having their annual "Chalk it Up" fundraiser on Saturday, May 7, at Parras Middle School from 10am to 4pm. Vendors and individuals are encouraged to attend. Vendors can purchase a 10x10 foot space for the day for $100. They must furnish their own easy-up tent. Individuals are invited to purchase different sized areas to create a one of a kind chalk masterpiece! A 2x2 foot area is $10, 3x3 is $20, and, for Corporate Sponsors, 5x5 for $100. The event will feature art galleries with student work, arts and crafts booths, face art, henna tattoos, entertainment, and prize drawings. For more info, contact Lorena Madden at 374-7634 or Ladylorena1@yahoo.com. For those of us that loved all those Hands on Art projects during the elementary and middle school days, you've probably noticed that the program runs a little differently at the high school level. At RUHS, all teachers can sign up for the Hands on Art projects, but generally, only those that see a tie in to their curriculum do so. The docents are all students enrolled in the Academy of Health and Fitness program. Parents are still involved, but only as facilitators. The PTSA provides funding to the program. o STAR Testing in May A little early info on the STAR (Student Testing and Reporting) testing coming up Monday, May 16, to Thursday, May 19. Make-up testing will take place Friday, May 20, to Tuesday, May 24. Students will take the California Standards Tests (CSTs) in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science during their second period. Not all students test every day as some tests depend on the classes they are taking. Check the schedule details at http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/STAR_schedule_05.doc. Seniors do not take the STAR. They will report to school after the testing period each day. Friday, May 20, is a minimum day; students will be dismissed at 12:20pm. o RUHS Band/Dance Guard Looking for Raffle Donations The RUHS Band/Dance Guard is looking for donations for a raffle they'll be holding at Jazz Under the Stars on June 3. Items such as restaurant or store gift certificates, gift baskets, etc. would be appreciated. If you own a business or patronize a business that would be interested in helping our talented RUHS performers, please contact Ms. Riccio at 798-8665 ext. 2042 or Deni Pulte at pultefam@verizon.net. The group is trying to raise money for new band uniforms. Jazz Under the Stars is the RUHS version of the Hollywood Bowl (only cheaper and more convenient). Be sure to save Friday, June 3 at 6:30pm for a fun night of entertainment by the Jazz Band and Dance Guard on the grass outside the auditorium. The event is free.
