It is possible to earn an exemption from the English and Math placement tests required for CSU freshmen by taking the EAP. The 45-minute essay portion of the test will be given on Thursday, Apr. 28 during 2nd period. The second part of the test consists of additional multiple choice questions during the STAR testing in May. For more information on EAP, see http://www.calstate.edu/eap/. o New High Tide Out A new "High Tide", the student newspaper, came out on Friday, Apr. 8. Check your student's copy for articles such as "Campus in need of repairs before centennial events", and "ASB finds success in Movies on the Lawn". o Prom News A Prom Expo will take place on Thursday, Apr. 21 at lunch in front of the cafeteria. The prom theme will be revealed and a variety of businesses will provide information and samples of their services (e.g., make-up, hair, limos). Prizes will be raffled off; buy raffle tickets Apr. 19-21 in front of Room 219. Prom tickets will be going on sale starting Apr. 22 for Seniors and Apr. 25 for Juniors for $75 with ASB and $80 without ASB. Tickets will be sold in Room 202 through May 18, but the prices go up $5 each week, so buy early. In order to buy a Prom ticket, you need to present a completed Prom Contract. Prom contracts are available now in Room 219. The Prom will be held on Friday, May 20 at The Lab in Los Angeles. o Dance Guard Auditions April 25-29 Auditions for the 2005-2006 RUHS Dance Guard are April 25-29. Pick up the paperwork in Room 3 or Room 219 or at http://www.geocities.com/ruhs_email/band.html. Contact Ms. Riccio at 798-8665 ext. 2042 if you have any questions. o Upcoming Cheer Parent Meeting and Tryouts If your student is interested in cheerleading next year, plan to attend a parent meeting on April 26 in the RUHS library at 6:30pm. At the meeting, Sherri Gross, the interim head coach for the upcoming season, will be introduced, the tryout schedule will be discussed, and paperwork will be distributed. Cheer tryouts include mandatory practices on May 10-12 from 3:15-5:00pm and the final tryout date on Saturday, May 14 at 9am. o RUHS Remedial Summer School Registration Students that failed a Fall Semester class that is being offered during Summer School, will be mailed a notice from their counselor during the 2nd week of May. After 4th quarter progress reports come out, the counselors will send home notifications to any student who receives an "F" in a class on that report. In both cases, the counselors will enroll students in the appropriate courses. Students who cannot attend summer school to complete the recommended coursework MUST notify their counselor in advance. Other students who failed a class in the past and feel they need summer school need to register through their counselor if they do not receive registration notification. The dates for RUHS's summer school are Jun. 27 to Aug. 5 on the Parras MS campus. May 25: incoming 10th graders May 26: incoming 11th graders May 27: incoming 12th graders Incoming Freshmen should plan to attend the orientation program on Wednesday, May 4, at 6:30pm in the Auditorium. The summer sports program will run for 5 weeks beginning June 27.
