Check the schedules from the RUHS sports page: http://bnet.org/ruhs/web3/sports/. If you click on the first item in the list, "Sports Schedules", you get options for various team/season schedules. o MTA Bus Line 215 Saved MTA bus line 215 has been retained in its entirety. The City of Redondo Beach will be working with the MTA to ensure that there is transit service along that route one way or the other. Thanks to everyone who wrote in to the MTA when line 215 was on "the chopping block." I'm sure we helped influence the positive outcome for this bus line that services so many of our North Redondo students. Terisa Price, the Transit Manager for the City of Redondo Beach, puts out a Beach Cities Transit Newsletter. If you would like to be added to her mailing list, send her an email at Terisa.Price@redondo.org or call her at 372-1171, x2670. If your kids don't ride the bus, but you'd like to find out more about it, drop me an email. I can provide details on how to get a bus card and the monthly passes for only $8 per month as well as provide tips on making sense of the bus schedule, etc. I think the MTA bus is a safe method for our students to get to and from school, it makes them more independent, cuts down on traffic around the school, and saves time for parents. I highly encourage you to consider using the bus. o High Tides - Articles on Summer Course Cancellation A new "High Tides", the student newspaper, came out on Friday, Apr. 2. As usual, there are lots of interesting articles in this paper and you should ask your student if they have a copy. Of particular interest are the articles "Summer courses cancelled" and "Students search for classes". Due to state budget woes, the school district has cancelled summer school except for remedial courses. Other options for summer classes are discussed such as attending Marymount's summer program affiliated with the Torrance school district or El Camino Community College. However, the article warns that community college budgets have also been cut so fewer courses may also be available at these sites. o Buy Your Grad Night Ticket Before They Go Up Again The price for Grad Night tickets is now $65. Be sure to buy before May 28 when prices go up again - to $160! See Mrs. Bassine in the Admin Office to purchase your ticket. o Sophomores: Interested in AP US History Next Year? Sophomores, if you are currently in CP Modern World History and would like to be considered for AP US History next year, sign up with Mr. Kotoian in his office. o Dance Team Tryouts Cancelled The Dance Team Tryouts scheduled for the week of Apr. 12-16 have been cancelled. See Ms. Lisle in the Girls' Gym for more information. o Scholarships Available - Don't Miss Out If you read the on-line bulletin regularly, you know there are a lot of scholarships out there just waiting to be applied for. Don't miss out on these opportunities. Some of are very specific (e.g., attended Adams Middle School) and some are more general. Some don't require that high of a GPA, so don't be afraid to apply. The Career Center has a BIG list of available scholarships posted: http://bnet.org/ruhs/web3/academics/ccenter/spring2004scholarships.html. o Check the On-Line Bulletin Now http://bnet.org/ruhs/web3/bulletin/index.shtml CONGRATULATIONS: o Beach Cities Robotics Team 294 won the most prestigious award, The Chairman's Award, at the Southern California Regional Competition last weekend. This award recognizes them as an outstanding role model for other teams to emulate and for forwarding the goal of "transforming the culture to one where youth aspire to careers in science and technology." Team 294 now qualifies for the Championship Chairman's Award competition in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome. New members are always welcome on the team; for more info, see their website: http://www.bcrobotics.org. o The RUHS Concert Band received the highest possible rating, Unanimous Superior, at the Fullerton High School Concert Festival last week.
