The Cornfield |
|||||||
It's come down through history as "The" cornfield. As though it was the only one. On the morning of September 17th 1862 Union troops under Joeseph Hooker charged through this field and the fighting back and forth, with Stonewall Jackson's men, produced such carnage that the field gained it's title with a "The". At the time of the battle, the field was full of corn, as tall as the men fighting there. When the battle was over the field was stripped bare and was covered with dead and wounded men. |
