In the heart of the almost endless Forbidden City. It once belonged to the Ming and Qing families when they ruled the land (which they also owned most of). A fantastic city within a city. You could easily spend a day or maybe even two hanging around and enjoying the sites. Which if you consider the swarm of people waiting to sell you something as soon as you step outside the gate...it isn't such a bad idea. We were here for a few hours and only touched the surface of what's there to see.
More of the city. Cypress trees linger around every corner. They take on these fabulous forms that make the Maine pine trees look terribly boring. The are another added feature of the enchanting surroundings that all too common in China.
Here we are (with Kez our Austrailian pal) ...the first day was all about the rain and fog but nothing...(not even a spicy Korean breakfast) could keep us from smiling. China was a fantastic adventure that we will not soon forget. It was easy to fall in love with the country. It had beautiful landscape, ornate buildings and the people didn't stare...not to mention the food ain't bad either.
We took lots of pictures with our camera but these came from Kez who was smart enough to buy digital before coming here...and nice enough to send along copies. Not an any specific order, maybe they can help to tell the tale that words would fail to explain. Let me say now that we would gladly offer ourselves as guides if anyone would like to pay our way back. Just a thought....enjoy.
Did I mention yet that it was really foggy? Well it's wasn't the best time to go see the Great Wall but we did anyway. It was all up hill and we only got to see a very small portion of it...(yes the fog may have had something to do with that.) All things considered...it rocked! The photo on the right is Lynn doing a jig of glee at the Ming Tombs. She was really happy to be there.
