What Every Sister Should Know July &August 2000

There is a STRONG message here!!! Read it, LEARN and CHANGE!

Subject: TALENTS

God gave Black people 500 billion talents. He gave

Hispanic people 350 billion talents. He gave Asian

people 225 billion talents. He left us alone for one

year and then returned to see what we had done with our talents

God asked the Asian people; What have you done with

your resources?; The Asians replied, ;We created

many businesses and purchased many franchises. We

used our resources to assist our families and our

Asian friends, helping them to get into business as well

The Asians continued, "Lord, we knew that with 225

billion talents we could generate even more talents

by pooling what we had and working together toward a

common economic goal. We have doubled the amount you

awarded us. We now have 550 billion talents. And to

; top it all off, our restaurants are going strong;

everybody loves our food!

The Lord said, "Well done, my good and faithful

servants. I will make you rulers over many things.

God then asked the Hispanic people what they had

done with their inheritance. They gleefully replied,

Lord, You are really going to be proud of us. Upon

receipt of our talents we went to work right away

and formed our own bank. We have one in Florida that

ranks among the largest in all the land. And you

know what else? The interest we are making will more

than double the amount of talents You gave us.

As God nodded approvingly, the Hispanic people

couldn't wait to continue.  We opened fast food

shops and sidewalk stands. We sold fruit,

enchiladas, and tacos. We supported Hispanic

doctors, lawyers, accountants, and all the Hispanic

businesses we could find. If a certain business did

not exist in our community, we pooled our resources

and started new ones. We have done very well, Lord,

especially considering the short time we have been

in this land.

And God said, Well done, my good and faithful

servants. I will make you rulers over many things.

Since God had given the most talents to His chosen

people-Black people, He couldn't wait to hear

what they had done with their 500 billion talents.

Like a doting father, He proudly asked them, What

have you done with your inheritance?

After turning their music down in order to hear what

God was saying, the Black people waved their hands

in the air (like they just didn't care) and shouted,

Lord, we just threw the party of the century, and

it was all good! Look at those bad rides parked

outside. We bought them from the German people and

the Japanese people. Wouldn't You agree, Lord, that

; we did good deeds by helping to make them wealthy?"

Even God looked perplexed. He asked if there was

anything else the Black people wanted to report.  "Oh

yeah,"  they replied.  "You haven't heard the half of

it, Lord. We're the most charitable people on earth.

We spent 95% of all You gave us with businesses

other than our own. We helped everyone. We didn't

discriminate and we didn't playa-hate."

"Then one of the Black leaders spoke up.  "You know

how we like nice clothes, Lord. So after the party

we went out and bought all of the latest styles with

; all of the right labels. You know what I'm saying?

W e just had to have it; we couldn't wait. Check us out"

Now the Lord was quite concerned about His people

and their attitude regarding their talents.

Continuing to probe and expecting to hear something

that would make Him proud, God pleaded, "Surely you

have done something with your inheritance to

generate more talents for yourselves?"

The Black people looked around at one another, and

one of their leaders stepped forward to sum things

up. "Lord we have the finest cars, we eat and drink

only top shelf, and we meet in the most elaborate

hotels. Our children have several pairs of the

latest gym shoes, we make the baddest videos and we

can throw down-I mean dance-with the best of

them. Even better than that, we have good jobs to

earn back our 500 billion talents next year, and we

will again be able to help all the other inhabitants of this land.

Sadly, God looked at His people and said, "With what

you have done with your talents, you may as well

have buried them in the ground. Because of your

slothfulness and lack of good stewardship, I will

give your future talents to those who have the

least.  You have gravely disappointed me by not

adhering to one of my most important admonishments:

To whom much is given, much is expected.

August Monthly
Activity

The Institute of Karmic Guidence was designed to educate and empower Black minds.  It is run by Anthony Browder, the founder of the Institute of Karmic Guidence and author of "Free Your Mind" and "Survival Strategies for Africans in America."

One of the most profound works that Anthony Browder is doing is working with educational systems to force them to teach TRUTH to students regarding the great number of contributions that people of African origin have made in America.  He is forcing the powers that be to acknowledge the fact that the Greeks, who are highly recognized for their so called achievements, stole everything they knew from Ancient African Egyptians and claimed credit for the hard work and knowledge of African people.

This month we are encouraging you to support Anthony Browders work with a financial donation to the Institute of Karmic Guidence.  He needs your support to continue doing the loving work that he is doing for our people.   You may support the institute by purchasing books, videos and casettes from the institutes website or by calling or writing the institute to make a financial donation.

What Every Sister Should Know--May 2000

NATIONAL BLACKOUT DAY IS COMING

On May 20, join your conscious Brothers and Sisters in a bold display of economic solidarity by not purchasing a THING on that day. Mark your calendars, tell your friends; if you are serious about drawing attention to your economic power, DON'T SPEND A DIME on May 20. We are the majority. Our dollars keep this world economic system afloat. And if we spend money only with our own establishments, the impact of one single day can have a positive spin on economics in our neighborhoods. Show America and the world that there is strength in numbers. Only frequent Black establishments. Only eat in Black Owned restaurants. Only buy Black hair products from the Black owned shops. No Chinese food or Lee Press on Nails today. (Surely you can go ONE day without, can't you) Put your money where your mouth is. DON'T SPEND ANY OF YOUR HARD EARNED DOLLARS IN PLACES THAT WILL NOT BENEFIT YOU, YOUR FAMILY OR COMMUNITY COME MAY 20. Don't make up for it the next day by spending twice as much outside of your community. And if you feel strong enough to follow through on May 20, mark the 20th of each month as a day of economic solidarity and practice this monthly. Teach your kids that the 20th of each month is intended to provide a future for them. We have to start somewhere. This year is only the beginning! I wish that I could take credit for this idea, but I only edited the message and suggest that we move to a monthly day. Next year the entire month of February will be a trial month. These are not the 1900s but the beginning of a new age. It's time for a change!

May's Monthly
Activity

This months activity is connected to the information Sisters of the Sun has posted in our "What Every Sister Should Know" section.  If you have read this section you already know that May 20th is National Blackout Day.

It is a day on which all conscious brothers and sisters of African origin will shop at businesses owned by people of African origin ONLY.

WE WILL NOT SPEND ANY MONEY with businesses that  are not owned by people of African origin on this day.

Please join us in our efforts to assure that our people become as independently wealthy as we have made those we tend to shop with everyday.

It is my deepest wish that people of African origin will make everyday National Blackout Day.

Read About The Man You Might Want To Elect Your President

Passed along from a friend at University of MI.

For your information

I don't know how many of you are stationed in Europe, but in February 15th's

edition of Stars and Stripes it talks about Bush's reaction to the dragging

death of James Byrd.

This man's family was pushing for a Hate Crime Law in Texas, and Bush made it

clear that the bill was not to reach his desk. Even though he was the state

governor at the time, he didn't even have the decency to acknowledge that

such a horrific act was committed in his very own state.

Some very high profile individuals attended the funeral, and it was very

inappropriate for the state governor to ignore this, and not attend. When the

victim's daughter, (4 months pregnant, bleeding, and on the verge of

miscarriage) flew from Hawaii, to Texas for a long sought after meeting,  Bush

kept the meeting to 10 minutes. He never shook her hand, offered her a

tissue, a glass of water, or even sympathized with the family for what

they've gone through.

She asked him about the Hate Crimes Bill, and he admitted he hadn't had time to

review it. So she pulled a copy out and laid it on his desk. He didn't  even

pick it up.

Come on y'all, is this who we want leading our country? or our ARMED

FORCES???!!!! Someone who regards Blacks as second class citizens, and

doesn?t even try to hide it? I want you all to think real hard about this

one. And remember, NOT voting can have the same effect as voting FOR him.

Your possible future President refused to sell his home to Blacks. This must

be passed to any and everyone. Brothers and Sisters, Please read and pass along.

We must remember this at the polls, and choose wisely.

For April's monthly activity we are asking that you please share the above artical with every person you know so that we may all be aware of the type of human being Bush is.  We are asking that you and those you know DO NOT VOTE FOR BUSH.

Subject:Blacks in the
year 2007

What Every Sister Should Know--March 2000

This is very important

Whether you're politically minded or not;

Whether you exercise your right to vote or not;

Every African American should be aware of this issue.

L.W.

What Does the Year 2007 mean to blacks?

Camille Cosby just made reference for The Voting Rights Act in her

most recent open letter on racism. If you've never been politically

involved or written an elected official, please do it NOW. This is

extremely important.

Please share this with all your family & friends. If they are not on

line, print this document and make copies. We need to let congress

know that we are here and our voices, opinions and votes make a

difference.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN!!!

We are quickly approaching the 21st Century and we were wondering,

and when I say we, there are others who know if anyone out there knew

what the significance of the year 2007 is to Black America? Did you know that our right to VOTE will

expire in the year 2007? Seriously! The Voters Rights Act signed in 1965 by Lyndon B. Johnson was

just an ACT. It was not made a law. In 1982 Ronald Reagan amended the Voters Rights Act for

another 25 years. Which means that in the year 2007 we could lose the right to vote!

Does anyone realize that Blacks/African Americans are the only

group of people who require PERMISSION under the United States

Constitution to vote!

In the year 2007 Congress will once again convene to decide whether

or not Blacks should retain the rights to vote (crazy, but true). In

order for this to passed, 38 states will have to approve an

extension.

In many opinions, that is ludicrous! Not only should the extension

be approved, but the Act must be made a law. Our right to vote should

no longer be up for discussion, review and/or evaluation. We must

contact our Congress persons, Senators, Alderpersons, etc., to put a stop to this!

As bona fide citizens of the United States, we cannot "drop the

ball" on this one! We have come too far to let government make us take

such a huge step backward So Please, let us push forward to continue to build the momentum

towards gaining equality. Please pass this onto others, as we are sure that many more individuals

are not aware of this. I urge all of you that are able, to contact those in government that have your

vote on this issue.

To send Internet mail directly to the President of the United

States:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/WH/Mail/html/MailPresident.html

Vice President is the same just enter vice in front of President.

To send a regular e-mail, Please address it:

[email protected]

Write your Congressman/Congresswoman, Write your president, write

somebody!

THIS IS NOT A JOKE. IT CAN ACTUALLY HAPPEN. Let's work together to

continue to strive towards equality for all Black African Americans.

Once again, we need to have our voices heard in mass. By now you must

all have heard of the brutal lynching of James Byrd, Jr. on June 7th 1998 in the town of Jasper Texas. Yes he was convicted, but what about the next time??

Because of very limited media coverage, you may or may not be aware that similar crimes have occurred recently in places as close to us as Virginia, and that since this lynching, two & quot;copy-cat" crimes have already taken place as if to stall a trend. If you've been listening to the & quot;Tom Joyner Morning Show & quot; that comes across the radio airways every morning, you may be aware of recent comment by BET Talk host Travis Smiley. He has provided information about the & quot;Hate Crimes Prevention ACT of 1998" which is yet to come before Congress, and about how to contact the chairperson in charge of that committee.

March's Monthly
Activity

We hope that you enjoyed Black History month.  We certainly did!

It is now time to Join us in our efforts to carry out our monthly activity for March.

As you know, Sisters of the Sun holds the Elderly in high esteem.

American Culture does not see value in the Elderly.  It is a culture that uses everyone and everything it can and then throws it and them away.

This is not the way of African culture.  Our culture does not abandon the Elderly--it honors them.

Acccording to Sobonfu Some, of the  Dagara Tribe in West Africa, the Elders are the people who make the decisions of the village.  When there is some pressing situation, the elders get together and try to figure out what should be done.  The Dagara people do not have police departments or other establishments, which are designed to maintain order in the village.  The Dagara people rely on spirit and on the Elders for justice.

Allowing our experienced Elders to be leaders of our communities is one of the reasons our ancient African cultures do not have the crime and dysfunction that runs rampant in American societies.

This month Sisters of the Sun is asking you to join us in honoring our Elders.

We are asking that you spend one day a week doing something to help, heal or brighten the day of an Elderly person.

What Every Sister Should Know--Jan/Feb 2000

Subject: STATUE OF LIBERTY

Good day. It is hard to believe that after my many years of schooling

(secondary and post) the following facts about the Statue of Liberty was
never taught. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of people including
myself have visited the Statue of Liberty over the years but yet IM unable
to find one person who knows the true history behind the Statue-amazing.

Yes, amazing that so much important Black history (such as this) is hidden
from us (Black and White).  What makes this even worse is the fact that the
current twist on history perpetuates and promotes white supremacy at the
expense of Black Pride.

During my visit to France I saw the original Statue of Liberty. However
there was a difference, the statue in France is Black.

Ya learn something new everyday! " The Statue of Liberty was
originally a Black woman, but, as memory serves, it was because the model
was Black.  In a book called & quot; The Journey of The

Songhai People," according to Dr. Jim Haskins, a member of the
National Education Advisory Committee of the Liberty-Ellis Island Committee,
professor of English at the University of Florida, and prolific Black
author, points out that what stimulated the original idea for that 151-foot
statue in the harbor.

He says that the idea for the creation of the statue initially was the part
that Black soldiers played in the ending of Black African Bondage in the
United States.  It was created in the mind of the French historian Edourd de
Laboulaye, chairman of the French Anti-Slavery Society, who, together with
sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, proposed to the French government that
the people of France present >to the people of the United States through
the American Abolitionist Society, >the gift of a Statue of Liberty
recognition of the fact that Black soldiers won the Civil War in the United
States. It was widely known then that it was Black soldiers who played
>the pivotal role in winning the war, and this gift would be tribute to
their prowess.

Suzanne Nakasian, director of the Statue of Liberty, National Ethnic

Campaign said that the Black Americans' direct connection to Lady Liberty
is unknown to the majority of Americans, BLACK or WHITE. When the statue was
presented to the US. Minister to France in 1884, it is said that he
remonstrated that the dominant view of the broken shackles would be
offensive to a U.S. South, because since the statue was a reminder of Blacks
winning their freedom. It was a reminder to a beaten South of the ones who
caused their defeat, their despised former captives.

Documents of Proof:

1.) You may go and see the original model of the Statue of Liberty, with
the broken chains at her feet and in her left hand.  Go to the Museum of the
City of N.Y, Fifth Avenue and 103rd Street (212) 534-1672 or call the same
number and dial ext.208 and speak to Peter Simmons and he can send you some
documentation.

2.) Check with the N.Y. Times magazine, part II May 18, 1986.

3.) The dark original face of the Statue of Liberty can be seen in the N.Y.

Post June 17, 1986, also the Post stated the reason for the broken chains at her feet.

4.) Finally, you may check with the French Mission or the French Embassy at
the U.N or in Washington, D.C. and ask for some original French material on
the Statue of Liberty, including the Bartholdi original model. You can call
in September (202) 944-6060 or 6400.

Please pass this information along!

January's Monthly Activity

All right ladies!  We all know that January is the birth month of one of our greatest--if not thee greatest--leaders Dr. Martin Luther King.
Though many of us celebrated Dr. Kings birthday on January 15, 2000, Sisters of the Sun would like for you to join us in closing out this month of celebrationon on January 31st, by lighting a candle and placing it in a windowsill in your home.

Allow this candle to remind you that though the month of celebration is coming to a close, we must continue to meditate on the gift that Dr. Martin Luther King's achievements have been to us throuhout the entire year.  Let us not forget.

Not only should we celebrate Dr. King throughout the year 2000, we should also celebrate the many nameless individuals who marched for our civil rights along with him.

Light em up ladies!!
