| Popular Writer Draws Crowd in Poteau By Janet Short Dr. Peggy Fielding spoke to a near-capacity crowd of writers Saturday at Buckley Public Library in Poteau. The topic was Sell Your Writing: Starting NOW. Writers came from Hartford, Waldron and Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Guests signed in from Hugo, Stigler, Sallisaw and Tulsa, as well as the Poteau area. Thirty-three interested and enthusiastic writers attended. Dr. Fielding is a fulltime writer who teaches writing at Tulsa Community College. She has published two non-fiction books about writing, several novels and hundreds of magazine articles and short stories. She is a popular lecturer at writers clubs and conventions all around the country. Fielding said she really enjoys our scenic drives but her visit here was marked by what she termed an eerie fog. She joked that shed have to mention eerie Poteau in one of her short stories. Joyce Rapier from the Arkansas Ridge Writers won a basket of goodies, including autographed books from local writer Paula Gorgas. From the same writing club, Dean Jackson won a signed copy of SALLY, a historical novel by Peggy Fielding. Green Country Ruff Riters, a local writing club, hosted the four-hour seminar with assistance by Buckley Public Library staff. |
