Ruffin's Chef-John Housman
Mr. Housman has been formally and informally trained in cooking in York, PA., New Orleans, LA., Denver, CO., and finally Austin, TX. He has done everything from run the back half of the Magnolia Cafe in Austin TX. to managing Nicolo's Pizza in Denver CO. to baking at Le Francis. John has recently finished a cookbook, which will be published before the end of fall 2002. The past 12 years John has worked as a Network Engineer/Administrator for companies such as US West, Freshwater Software and Cirrus/Crystal Semiconductor and in the last 5 years of work had reached the status of Senior Network Engineer. John is a 1st degree black belt in Shaolin Kung Fu under Master Dr. Joe Schaeffer In Austin, TX. as well as receiving belts ranging from brown to black in various styles and has studied for over 20 years and is the son of Master John Roderick Housman. John met George Ruffin while working with the Codorus Creek Improvement Partnership as a Volunteer Leader/Network Engineer in York, PA. George and John hit it off and have been working side by side to give York the dream of a Jazz club that George has envisioned ever since. The photo above shows John at  his greatest passion, music. Among the many instruments he plays, (some not as fluently as others) Piano is his favourite.
Never having considered himself a chef, Mr. Housman is ever grateful to Mr.Ruffin for the chance to live one of his dreams-creating the menu for and running a resturant in a jazz club, One of John's hearts desires since being in his first Jazz club in Denver (and coincidently having his first Martini!) as a guest of the chef at the time.
