Rufas Rocks Quick-E CD Review
Artist: 30 Seconds to Mars

Title:
A Beautiful Lie

Style:
Modern Rock with a dash of Techno and Emo type screaming.

Grade:
B

Curve:
Medium (catchy but some screaming)

Comments:
Different from their self titled debut. Very emotional and personal. No more using space lyrics as allegories for real life. Although I'm not a big screamo guy I thought the screaming of singer Jared Leto was well done and usually adds to the emotional impact. Not as original or "artsy" as their debut but a worthy CD in its own right.

Favorites: "Attack", "A Beautiful Lie" "From Yesterday"

Skippers: "The Fantasy"

Reviews Explained:

Artist, title and grade are self explainitory.

Style is like genre except its a statement instead of a label.

Curve is how "familiar" or "foreign" the music is likely to sound to someone familiar with the general category (e.g. rock, metal) but not the particular style (e.g. symphonic black metal, 70s art rock). Easy means the listener would "get it" right away whereas hard means that the listener may be "put off". This could be due to longer soug length, unfamiliar or ever changing rhythms, melodies, tempos and / or hooks or the dreaded screaming, shrieking, growling vocals.

Favorites are the songs I like the best. Skippers are songs I usually skip when listening to the CD.

All Music link is the link to the reviewed album's page on All Music Guide's site. They (along with Amazon reviews) are the best place to look for info on music relea
