| Computer Information Technology NEW Prepare for our next website project by searching your textbook for the answers to these questions. OLD This week you are investigating the various types of multimedia file types: in the areas of graphics, audio (sound), and video. Some formats are made for a specific platform; for example, Apple or Microsoft Windows. However, there are plug-in programs that will solve this problem, by playing formats created for other platforms. There are also conversion programs, which are sometimes necessary. "For example, java applets are capable of playing only files in AU format. Two Macintosh programs that perform sound format conversion are Sound App and Convert Machine. For PC systems, the Goldwave sound editing system allows users to convert different types of audio formats. "The growing use of versatile plug-ins to play a variety of sound formats makes it less necessary to know many technical details about which platforms play which sounds and how to convert between them. Nevertheless, we would like to get some background on the various formats." -www.webteacher.org Use these resources to help you find what you're looking for.
