My
Graphic Designing Interests

Becoming a graphic designer is my overall reason for attending college. My interest in graphic arts started from my childhood. I remember very well when I first applied my pencil to a paper and began drawing out ideas. It surely did not look like much when I first started out, of course. Over time I've realized my progress and my interest was improving. In my high school years, I took many art classes that were offered. I started to learn more about my new interest involvements. I remember thinking of becoming a great designer. In order for that to happen, it is really important to understand what art is all about. Becoming a great designer would involve heart and hard work. In class we've learned that in order to move forward to the next level, I will need to learn more about the history of graphic designing.

Design history is an endless source of inspiration and learning as it is the work of contemporary designers. Because design is a cultural activity, all of the other creative practices, such as art, music, literature, and film, also influence graphic designers' work. How could it not?    "The term graphic design refers to the process of working with words and pictures to create solutions to problems of visual communication" (Heller and Fernandes 27).
Much of graphic design involves designing materials to be printed, including books, magazines, brochures, packages, posters, and imagery for electronic media. Such design ranges in scale and complexity from postage stamps and trademarks to billboards,
film, video, and web pages.

Graphic design is a creative process employing art and technology to communicate ideas. With control of symbols, type, color, and illustrations, the graphic designer produces visual compositions meant to attract, inform, and persuade a given audience.
Under the skilled guidance of a graphic designer,
a message becomes visual, transcending words alone (Marshall).

I remember not having enough room around the house to hang my designs on the walls.  What really kept me driving forward were the teachers and students who admired my creations. I call them my creations because they were unique ideas of art styles. It also felt good having my own way of doing things. After taking all the art class the school offered, I was introduced to computer graphics. Like most people, I felt afraid of failing this class because I have never really understood computers.  I was then introduced to Adobe Photoshop, which is the world's leading graphic designing software.
I sill have the very first graphic
designed distorted photo of a three-eyed baby.

I realize that the computer is now a part of my pencil and paper tool kit. At this stage of learning new things, it would have been very hard for me to step away from the computer.  My teacher really believed in me, because he had to go out of his way to provide me with a laptop to take home. It was a 256 IBM black /white and very slow, but it was free. I was so thankful for his kindness. I was unable to run most of today's up-to-date programs, so I would draw with Windows Paintshop programs. My best friend's mother works for a major computer engineering company. She gave me my first 486 Dell desktop computer. She also spent time every day after school showing me the right way to upgrade and install programs into it.

After high school I really wanted to find a job that related to art in some way. But just coming out of high school with no work experience or college degree, I did not succeed. Four years later, I've worked at two different jobs to find out that I needed to get back to doing what I really like doing. In 2002, I started my first year of college to try to receive a graphic design degree. My goal is, after college, to open my own business and name it RUDEWORKS.
I'm so lucky to be surrounded by so many wonderful people who are willing to help me to achieve my goals. I have challenge myself by doing extra projects at school, and still able to get all my class assignments finished in time to learn as much as I can.

I've already decided what I will do with my life after finishing school. I'll surely involve myself with multimedia communication. It's my decision to become a great designer whether it's graphic designing, web design or video editing for a big company
or
working for myself in the future.
