Here is a chart you can use to show you the ideal mouse diet. *14% or less Protein * 4% or less fat & oil * at LEAST 5% fiber * around 50% carbohydrates * low ash That being said, you can compare around to find the best mix for your mice. Lab Blocks are the best diet for mice, but are also very boring. Watch out for fat content when choosing your mouse food. Mice Love sunflower seeds, but they have a very high fat content & should only be given in moderation or as treats. Also watch out for a food that has a lot of alphalpha pellets, these are for hamsters, and cannot be digested by mice. Don't worry, however, if you have already have them, they won't even eat them. But you don't want it to take up most of the volume of your food, you will have a lot of waste & a starving mouse! The following is the homemade mix that we use for our mice: *Crushed or whole Oats * Cockatiel Seed (or millet) *a TINY amount of total cereal (crushed) *sometimes things like cherrios or rice puffs are added We used to add cooked whole grain rice, but then we had to keep the mix in the fridge & it molded after about a week, NOT GOOD! We also used to mix in molasses (has vitamins) as well, but again, we then had to refrigerate it, and besides, it stunk, and the mice didn't even like it! |
