A bit of history as to why I like musicals:
My parents each have a favorite musical. My mom loves The Sound of Music because she also came from a family of seven children, 2 boys and 5 girls. She went to see it seven times in theaters when she was a kid. If you don�t know my mom, just understand that this is very unusual for her, as she always watched every penny she had. My dad�s favorite musical is Fiddler on the Roof. I�m not entirely sure why, but it is, which is great, cuz it's a great musical. So I grew up learning all the songs, being able to break out in any song from at least The Sound of Music at the drop of a hat. I can still do that (just in case you�re interested). Ok, on to (possibly) more interesting stuff.
One of my favorite composers is Andrew Lloyd Webber. I found out about him, or rather, one of his musicals when I was little, watching PBS, and they had something about Cats on there. I thought it was really cool because I was a kid who loved cats. I didn�t think too much about it again till I was in about 7th grade and one of my friends went to see Cats and told me how awesome it was. I found the CD�s at the library and checked them out and completely fell in love with this piece of work. For Christmas, my parents got me a CD that had songs from several different Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, the first one of course being The Phantom of the Opera. If you�ve never heard at least this song, I recommend that you listen to it. I�ve now seen this musical twice (once at Bass Hall and once on Broadway) and I�ve loved it both times.
Another great musical is RENT. I found out this musical from some online group I was part of. I kept on hearing about it, so I downloaded some of the songs, fell in love with it, and bought the musical. It's so funny, I got one of my friends hooked on it, and she got both of her sisters to start singing it, so her mom now blames me for bringing RENT to their household.
A few disclaimers: I have not seen the stage version of most of these musicals yet, and if I have, they probably were not professionally done. Also, if I steal stuff from other places, and don�t say so, I�m very sorry. I will do my best to credit sources I steal from.
