A Midsummer Nights Dream
Opening Night
For the recent opening night of A Midsummer Nights Dream, a friend and I decided to dress up in the fairy theme. We foung this beautiful irridescent taffeta on sale for two dollars a yard, and had to get it. Even though semester finals are looming on the not so distant horizon, we escaped the schoolwork, and made dresses anyway. I spent about ten dollars on all of this outfit, and pulled from my fabric and costume stash for the rest of the pieces.
Because I was stealing time away from schoolwork for this, I pretty much layed material on the floor and freehand cut things out. I am happy enough with the skirt (which looks better with a bustle under it) but not as happy with the bodice front. I think I will take it off and make a different one if I wear this again. I ended up pinning it to my corset under the velvet trim so it would stay put. It looked okay from a distance though. I was well complimented on the outfit.
One of my other friends was kind enough to do my hair with odds and ends from the costume shop. She also helped me get ready as I was rushing to the show while simultaneously attacking me with fairy sparkles. I shook glitter dandruff out of my hair for quite awhile when I went to undo the styling. There was no hairspray, gel, or any other hair product used to keep this together. (This was taken after dinner and the show, and the reception, so it is a little tired. My hair is very thin and doesn't like to stay put.)
This shows the back with a bustle under it. It really needs a bustle to keep the train from collapsing into itself. The line across the bodice back is from me slouching in my corset.
