Star Wars II
Jedi
Well, it has been quite awhile again since I updated this page. My computer has been a little freaky lately and decided not to let me on to fix the site for the last two months. Since I have finally gotten around to updating it, I decided to add a blurb on what I am up to at the moment.
This is a composite of pictures that I played with in photoshop. My cousin asked if I could make him a Jedi costume. So I said I would and begain trying to see how it would look.
Two weeks later I had the measurments and this picture. Another week and I had bought all of the material. I decided not to go overboard on design or material or anything, mostly because you never know how quickly kids grow out of these phases. "Star Wars fever" could be over before I finished sewing I thought. Although, it is true that some people are still dressing up as Star Wars characters, and have been since the release of A New Hope. It has taken another four months for me to start actually sewing the thing.

I now know so much more than I ever wanted to about Jedi accessories, clothing and fan sites. I had never even heard of food capsules before, and now I am sitting putting three layers of paint and a coat of varnish onto pen caps. I will have pictures up soon of all of this process.(Hey I am doing pretty good just getting any work done on it.) It is true, however, most of the delay was due to school. This last semester was very busy, and I barely slept, much less had time to sew. That is why there is an even bigger rush on my part to finish this before the spring semester begins. I have been working over break, so my time is still limited.
The costume is based on the clothing worn by the character Mace Windu in Episode II of the prequels. I have recently decided to give it a little twist towards individuality instead of recreation due to time, materials, and personal preference. So it will be his own version of a Jedi master's costume.
I have finally accomplished something. I finished the undertunic. It is made of laundered challis, and I love that fabric! It was suprisingly nice to work with and hangs beautifully. The pattern is loosely based on a martial arts tunic and heavily altered to fit a smaller person and smaller fabric allowance. What can I say, I underbought, an unusual occurance for me. I got it all to fit though by adding long cuffs to the bottom of the sleeves instead of merely extending the material. I ended up getting the shirt with extra long sleeves and cross over front out of a yard and a third of 36 inch material and having a little square extra left over. I was very proud not to have to piece anything else to make it fit.

NEW!
You can see some interim photos of construction on this page. The outfit actually is finished and fit onto him, but I have yet to get the pictures developed from that. So, in the meantime, here you go.
