Where's Anakin?

Padme sat on top of a tall dark green hill, overflowing with white and violet flowers.  They covered every inch, every centimeter of the hill, and towered over the grass, stretching 4 feet into the air in the way baby birds reach their necks as far out of their nest as they can manage.  At the bottom of the hill, a rainbow stretched across the sky and over the gleaming city where people laughed with each other and relaxed in their simple houses or beautiful dome buildings.  Naboo.

Padme held on to her dream, and she joined the laughter.  Her favorite spot in the world.

When she had been a child, her grandmother had told her the same thing every night before she went to sleep.  "Dream of a happy place, Padme!  Your favorite place in the world!"

She dreamt of it now and ran over to the clear water stream.  It was deep enough to swim in, with no rocks at the bottom, and she jumped in and let the water take her away.  A soft voice echoed in the clouds, her grandmother's voice.  Her mothers musical laughter came from behind it, along with her fathers deep, calm voice.

Visions of her friends danced around her, and the people she cared about dearly.  They all swam with her in the cool water, with animals darting here and there, drinking from the stream.

Was there any place better than this? Padme wondered.  But looking around herself, she answered her own question.  No, there was not.

The stream took her into the heart of Naboo, her city.  She loved looking at the children play, and talking to the townsfolk, free from the politics.  Oh, those dreaded things.  She talked to one of her good friends Jocelyn, and walked to the palace, accompanied by her handmaidens.  She listened to the latest gossip, courtesy of Sabe and Rabe, and listened to the click of her heels against the pavement.

Amidala watched the people walk past, and noticed someone familiar.  The way he moved...the air he held around himself...yes.  As he approached, it became clear her suspicions were right.  But he was not supposed to be in the dream.  No, he wasnt!  Amidala stared in shock as Palpatine walked past her and her handmaidens and winked mockingly at her.  Padme shivered, and found herself back on top of the hill.  She lay down in the field of flowers, and looked at the deep blue sky, trying to shake off what she had just seen.  Deep blue sky.

Padme suddenly realized the one thing that was desperately missing in her dream.

Anakin.
