I found her in a vacant lot along side a busy street on New Years Day, 1997. She was probably around 8-10 weeks of age. Although she doesn't have the deafness associated with Dalmatians, she does have the stubborn streak. She hears me, she just sometimes chooses to ignore me.
When Camille was just over a year old, she had a seizure that nearly killed her. It was two weeks before she fully recovered from its ferocity. I began researching possible causes and treatments. Unfortunately, I was only offered drug treatment locally.
But several months after the seizure, I got my first computer and found a support group online made up of people from all around the world, united by the suffering of their beloved dogs. There is a wealth of information to be found at the Epil-K9 discussion group and site.
Camille has never again had as powerful a seizure as the first ones. Her seizure pattern is every three months, for a 24 hour period she will seize two or three times, 45- second seizures. I use Rescue Remedy to calm both of us. |
