He is Patty Duke and John Astin's son.
The movie which made Sean known to most people was "The Goonies", which he acted in at the age of 13. Altogether he has starred in over 30 movies, although many of you probably may know him best for his role as Samwise Gamgee, Frodo Baggins' trustworthy sidekick, in the epic film-triology; "The Lord of the Rings.
True to his word, Astin, 30, packed on 14kg and relocated to New Zealand in October 1999, with his wife Christine, 34, and daughter Alexandra, 5, for the 15 month shoot.
