Rescuing Run Aways
To start off there is a couple things you need. If you have a Windows computer,(you should if you own the game petz) then you should already have regedit.exe. If you have no clue what this is or where it is don't worry. (thats what messed me up in the beggining) on the bar at the bottom of your computer press the button that says start then find, files or folders. Where it says "Named" type regedit.exe where it says "Look In" scroll up to My Computer. Just leave the containing text blank. Then press find. When it finds it you might want to drag it to a place that you won't forget (for future use). Open it up and press the + next to where it says HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then press it by SOFTWARE then PF. Magic then Petz 4, Then press the folder icon by 4.00.00. Now that you have that minimize it by pressing the little - button at the top of that screen. Now your probably thinking "I did all that for nothing???" don't worry you will get back to that later.
Here you can learn how to rescue your run away petz. Please don't blame me for anything that goes wrong. Though I don't think much can I havn't had anything wrong with mine yet. Also don't do this if you arn't very familar with a computer. It is accutally very simple. Don't worry if you can't do it right away. I spent 3 days on it before I finally understood. Only about 75% of the petz work with this. I still have some runaways that won't come back so if you understand the process but it doesn't work just try a different petz. Ok... Here we go.
If you don't have a hex editer already then you will need to get one. I'm very sorry I forgot where I got my hex editer. All I did was look at a bunch of sites on the Petz Top 50 and finnaly found one to download. Sorry again. All the editers are different. Don't worry this won't make things any more difficult. To start off you have to have the pet file that your working with in your adopted petz folder. Open the hex editer and at the top press file, open, then find your adopted petz folder in there and double click on the petz. Don't have a heart attack when you see it. Please. You don't have to know any magic here. Just follow my directions and it is very easy.
Now your probably thinking "I think I'll just give up on this petz and play with just my others." Don't think that. In most things people tell you to do in the hex editer you have to search through the intire thing reading it to find what your looking for. Unless your blind I don't think you have to worry about that. Notice there is 3 coloms. The first has some numbers and letters that count up in hex numbers. The 2nd one is what we are looking at. It is different in alot of hex editers. Sometimes it goes something like F023 73AC (not thoughs letters and numbers but in that pattern (4 of something space 4 of something) the others only have 2 of something space 2 of something) Like this 43 C1 5F F4 its not that complicated. Look at the first 4 letters. It should be something like C1 0B. The first 2 will always be different on the different petz but then next 2 will either be 0B or 0C. They don't make a difference. Make sure you have thoughs first 4 in your head before the next step.
Open up your regedit again. Scroll down to "Petz In Playpen" double click on that. In front on you you should see a little box (or big) it depends what size you make it. It should look like this... 0000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........ 0008 Highlight the fist 4 00 00s as shown in blue. Now type in the numbers and letters that were the first 2 on the hex editer. example: C1 0B, D3 0C and stuff like that. What ever it said. Press "OK" then minamize every thing. Open your petz game and the run away petz should come out. WARNING: DO NOT PUT THESE PETZ BACK OR YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THE PROCESS OVER AGAIN!!! Now click the other pick a petz button and go down to the petz that you just worked on. If it still has the "Run Away" sign on it close the game and open it again. Without putting the petz away. Do the pick a petz thing again. If the sign is still there the petz is permanatly gone. Good luck!
