| The Red thanked me greatly, I shoved him off and continued, knowingly he trailed me hoping to return the favor, I hoped he would if I found myself in a fix. I quickly learned that almost all Blues had been finished off. Though the Blues general still lived. He was the best of us all has never lost. This time it would be I who finished this. Shouting out to all Reds as I ran, "THE GENERAL IS MINE!"
***** I was in the midst of the battle with dead bodies sprawled everywhere. Blood stained faces with glazed over eyes staring back at me from the ground. I assuaged myself to peak over the ridge behind which I hid. A man in a Blue coat, Blues verse Reds, with a general's badge upon his chest. Covering his heart that thumped so hard it sounded in his ears. I raised the sniper, I held the butt of the gun up to my shoulders. Slowly I rose a little higher and got the muzzle over the ridge, I took my aim, in-between the ear and right eye. The temple. With one shot released I rolled over without a glance at my kill. A few feet from where I had started I looked at the dead body of the Blues general. I proudly stood in triumph as the surviving Reds cheered. The Blues had lost and I had taken the general. The malovent homicide was over. This time I refused to step out and I slowly faded as I walked away. I transferred through shadow as I walked. After reaching a desolated highway in a distant shadow I reached from my trumps. Located at my belt in a wooden case, carved with intricate drawings. Focusing upon a picture of a beautiful woman of light brown hair and a gown of dark green. I studied her beauty as she regarded me as well. "Darkin! Have you decided upon my request to return." "Pull me through Fiona, I am returning to Amber." My mother clasped my hand as I left that distant shadow in rainbows. Finis Copyright David Rubicam 2006 |
