Sisyphus

Sisyphus pushed the boulders down
over the edge of the cliff.
Thousands and thousands of boulders to go,
he had worked at this task for thousands of years,
or perhaps since before the beginning of time?
It was his only purpose in life,
his reason for existence.
He pushed the boulders over the cliff
with no regrets it was what he had been created for.

Millions of years and boulders later
Sisyphus pushed the last one down.
Stunned and astonished, he looked all around,
all he could see was the bare ground.
He sat down and thought for fifty years
and finally came to a realization.

Theres nothing left to do, he said,
now that Ive pushed every boulder down.
So if my lifes purpose is fulfilled,
theres nothing left to remain here for.
He breathed a sigh of finality
and took a leap of faith.
