WAITING

Upon the bank, alone she sat
by the river, flowing along
with thoughts to keep her company
of memories held so strong

Her toes, she dangled, into the stream
the soothing waters rushing by
every now and then a bird would sing
a sweet, calming lullaby

The warmth of the sun enveloped her
a cool breeze caressed her skin
with a smile upon her gentle face
as her memories stirred within

She knew not how long she lingered here
for time, didn't matter much anymore
apart from her lover, she'd spend the days
dreaming on the river shore

Then she heard a rustling, not far off
turning to see what made the sound
and there he stood, the love of her life
at last, her waiting was now done

Their eyes met, locked in a loving glance
no words spoken, lest they break the spell
he raised his hand up to her face
touching her tender, with a kiss as well

It felt like forever, but she had to wait
she knew she could not go on alone
now together, they soared into the heavens
to spend all eternity, as one
