The Dragon Fighter

He was sent out to fight, the dragon, fierce and feared
So he donned his silver armor and gathered up all his gear

The people of the kingdom lined up to watch him leave
Fearing he'd not return, his fair maiden, silently grieved

Many had oft gone before him and all failed to come back
But this knight, brave and bold was sure his might would not lack

Ever determined with trusted sword in hand
He embarked on the journey to the feared dragon's land

He knew it would entail a battle far greater than he
But he'd return to the kingdom with proof of victory

Reaching the caves where dragons were known to dwell
He readied himself for a battle to equal hell

And there through the trees he at last espied the foe
He layed out a plan for this dragon must surely go

He charged at the dragon with every ounce of his power
Sword thrusting with vengence, the dragon spitting fire

Soon the dragon did cease and layed down on the ground
The knight, cautiously neared him surprised at what he'd found

The dragon not dead but just holding his breath
had no intention of taking this knight to his death

The knight stood for a moment, shocked and amazed
For this dragon could have easily sent him to his grave

He wondered then, "where were the knights before him"
and the dragon did explain, "Lost in the forest of Dim"

So together they set out for the other knights to seek
the dragon's fire lighting the way, it took them just over a week

But soon they were all gathered, safely and unharmed
They all walked back to the kingdom with the dragon, arm in arm
