In 1986 who would have believed that in two or three short years vinyl would become nearly extinct? It's hard to believe how fast CD's took over and a little sad that vinyl didn't get to die a slow graceful death - the record companies gave it a fatal bullet to the head. After all CD's are so much cheaper to manufacture they tripled (or more) their profits overnight.
Don't get me wrong, I embrace the new technology. I love CD's. But there's a place deep inside that longs for the days when you played an LP and you had no doubt that it was YOUR record because it had it's distinctive pops and hisses. It's own personality.

I have a copy of the Eagle's "Hotel California" album and there is place in the song "Life in the Fast Lane" where the grooves got "flattened" somewhere along the way and though the record doesn't skip - at that spot it sounds like three taps with brushes on a cymbal. When you listen to it, it sounds like that "noise" was MEANT to be there.

You'll never have that kind of personal connection with a CD.
