This is a standard position from the Q G
Exchange variation.
White
does, in fact, have a mobile pawn centre. However, there is little chance of
progress in the centre at the moment. That is why most players continue with
the minority attack. Nevertheless, a set up Ne2 to g3 and f3 , e4 is a good
attacking plan if White is given the opportunity to do this. Black continued :
Qa5?!
(normal is Be7) 8.Ne2 Ne4 9.Bf4 Bb4 Black appears to be attempting to play a
Cambridge Springs, but this is a Queen’s Gambit Exchange variation, Qa5 is
inappropriate in this position and White easily covers the threats whilst
putting his pieces on the correct attacking squares.
