purchased for both Holmfirth Fire Brigade
and Kate Keely [in appreciation for her hosting several chess matches
last season]. Holmfirth Fire Brigade should again be thanked for their
hospitality, with special thanks to Richard. Roger should buy some token of
appreciation {£10 allocated} as last year and liaise with the treasurer for
funds). Roger Keely stated that he would try to produce press releases to
celebrate the link between Holme Valley Chess Club and the Fire Service

final played on 13th May 2003.

Secretary’s report.
{a}
Venue and match night
There
was a general discussion about the venue and match night, the tables, and other
possible venues. It was decided to continue to use the Holme Valley Fire
Service Community room, and be on the lookout for suitable tables.
{b}
Recruitment and publicity,
It
was decided that Geoff Peake should produce more posters about Holme Valley
Chess Club. Stewart Thompson to distribute them in suitable places.
{c}
Club Individual competition and other matters.
It was agreed that the 2003-4 All Play
All Handicap Tournament, won by Stewart Thompson, had been a success. The game
Stewart Thompson versus Kevin Haigh would be the final game – played Tuesday 11th
May – This would decide the second place prize. It was agreed that the
Tournament for 2004-5 should follow the same format with the same prize money,
again organised by Geoff Peake, and should take place on identified Club Nights
(match free weeks) starting end August 2004.
On completion of the Tournament, the top 4
players to play a special handicap match against the leading 4 players in the
Club.
Stewart
Thompson strongly advocated having a weekly Club Night at Holme Valley Chess
Club. It was decided that in view of the small number of active members {10}, the
next step should be to step up publicity , and actively pursue new members,
before this could take place.

Rapidplay

reported that the team had a successful, solid, season, coming 4th
out of nine teams in the Watkinson.
In the
Rapidplay the team had done very well to come second.
The
teams had almost always fielded a full team which Roger felt was a very good
sign.

Team Captain’s report
Handicap / Team KO
