You might be asking why you should send me money when you are trying to save for your own trip. Here's the thing, not many Americans take this type of trip, but most of them envy the one who does. Wouldn't you want to be able to say that you took part in something much bigger than yourself? Also, I'm really not asking for something for nothing. I have decided that there should be some levels of donation.
Level 1: $0-$3 I will send you a nice thank you note for your donation and you will have the satisfaction of helping me afford a hostel in a third world country for a night.
Level 2: $4-$10 In addition to the thank you for such a large contribution I will send you a postcard from some place on the road. My basic itinerary will be on this web page as I work on it. You can even pick a country or a region you would like to have the card sent from and I will do my best to comply.
Level 3: $11 + This is the fun one. I will do something for you while abroad and document it. This could be hiking a certain trail, taking a picture of something and sending it to you, eating some type of food, or something totally crazy and out there. There are a few rules to this one. I won't do anything that is needlessly dangerous, I won't make a bad name for American travelers, and your donation has to cover the cost and then some for the act itself.
